Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Sara Davies is facing a challenging period as her multimillion-pound arts and crafts company battles staggering losses.

Davies, whose Crafter’s Companion online firm supplies products to over 30 countries, revealed the problems her company has been facing.

Last October, the company reported a £1 million deficit, with further losses expected to be filed this month amidst the cost of living crisis and Brexit fallout.

The 39-year-old business mogul is now spearheading a major restructure, investing in experts including a new CEO specialised in digital retail.

Speaking to the Mirror, Davies candidly admitted: ‘I’m just going to be really honest, it has been a rough couple of years.

‘And I kind of don’t want to shy away from that because I always feel, especially with my role on Dragons’ Den, I’ve got that responsibility of being a bit of a role model. I’ve had to work harder than I ever have in my life.’

Despite experiencing a surge in demand during the pandemic, Davies’ company has been grappling with various challenges including rising raw material costs, energy crises, geopolitical tensions such as the conflict in Ukraine, and the ongoing repercussions of Brexit.

In the midst of this upheaval, Sara is overseeing the restructuring of her Darlington-based firm in County Durham, with Growth Partner set to become the majority shareholder.

However, Sara remains firmly in control as the owner, founder, and director of the company.

While navigating the company’s challenges, Sara is also juggling her commitments to Dragons’ Den, her new BBC show Making It, as well as her family life with husband Simon and sons Oliver, 10, and Charlie, seven.

Despite the turbulent times, Sara expressed confidence in her new CEO David Stern and investor Growth Partner, stating: ‘It’s a really exciting time for the company.’

Sara has been a part of Dragons’ Den since its seventeenth series in 2019, replacing Jenny Campbell. She also competed in the nineteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.
