Race Across The World viewers are predicting the ‘most chaotic series yet’ after a couple blew more than 30% of their budget on the first leg.

Fans were left in disbelief over the decisions made by the contestants as the hit BBC returned for season 4 tonight.

Tasked with travelling from Japan to Lombok against the clock, the teams had to make their way from Sapporo to Nara City in the first episode.

But it is not plain sailing as the duos are banned from having phones, using the internet, taking the bullet train, and only have the cost of a return flight in cash.

Mother-and-daughter team Eugenie and Isabel, however, appeared to forget they did not have an unlimited sum of money.

Instead of preserving cash for the rest of the trip, which will see them visit countries including South Korea and Vietnam, Eugenie and Isabel splashed £40.75 on an hours-long taxi.

Overall, they hammered through a whopping 32% of their budget in five days and it rang alarm bells for viewers.

On X, Dan exclaimed: ‘80% LEFT ALREADY? Gosh this series will be the most chaotic yet #RaceAcrossTheWorld.’

Roddy Graham quipped of their spending: ‘Eugenie and Isabel just wanted a 5 day holiday to Japan and have managed to get the BBC to pay for it. Fair play to them tbh. #RaceAcrossTheWorld’

X account Flopsy Pickle, however, shared more concern and lamented: ‘Jeeze their haemorrhaging money #RaceAcrossTheWorld.’

Agreeing, Dave James remarked: ‘Just wondering if Eugenie and Isabel are even going to make the end of this episode #RaceAcrossTheWorld.’

Many others also drew comparisons to father and daughter duo Claudia and Kevin in the previous season of Race Across The World.

Claudia and Kevin regularly left viewers tearing their hair out for their excessive use of taxis as they travelled from one end of Canada to the other.

However, perhaps Eugenie and Isabel are having the last laugh as they were the first contestants to reach the checkpoint.

Isabel even acknowledged their wild spending and said they would be focussing on recouping their costs with a job on the next leg.

Alongside Eugenie and Isabel also competing for the cash prize mother and daughter Brydie and Sharon; best friends Alfie and Owen; married couple Stephen and Viv, and brother-sister pair Betty and James.

Race Across the World season 4 comes after the BBC aired its first celebrity spin-off, which saw stars backpacking from Marrakesh, Morocco to Tromso, Norway.

It starred McFly’s Harry Judd and his mum Emma, All Saints singer Melanie Blatt and her mum Helene, F1 ace Billy Monger and his sister Bonnie, and Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford and his dad Noel, the latter of whom emerged victorious.

Race Across the World continues on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
