The must-have shorts of the season that suit everybody – and how you can wear them for all occasions

THE days are getting longer and summer is finally on the horizon.

With the weather picking up, now is the perfect time to get your hands on some shorts for the season ahead.

Arket, M&S, NextMake Bermuda shorts top of your spring wish list, says the Fabulous Fashion team[/caption]

Bermuda shorts are a great option for this time of year, as they’re longer than your average pair of shorts (often down to your knees) and come in a range of styles – from linen and denim to smarter pairs that can even be worn to the office.

Teamed with a blazer, shirt and ballet flats, this style proves that your shorts aren’t just for holidays.

However, if you are jetting off any time soon, then they’re also a great piece to pack, whether you’re heading off for a city break or a beach destination.

Here, the Fabulous Fashion team show how they’re planning on wearing theirs this season .

Typically, I wouldn’t gravitate towards Bermuda shorts, as usually I’d opt for a ‘mom’ fit, but Tracey totally converted me last week when she shot this pair for her May Fashion Director’s Edit (watch out for this in the magazine in the coming weeks!).

I’ll be wearing them with this pretty embroidered shirt tucked in, and layering a denim jacket over the top.

The tailored detailing makes this pair of shorts much more versatile.

And the combination of textures makes for a put-together look that’s suitable for a day in the office, lunch with friends or a shopping trip into town.

I’ve pulled the outfit together with some gold-rimmed shades from H&M and this lovely braided raffia bag from Zara, which would also look gorgeous on holiday!

Finally, I’ve added the sandals of the season – this black pair from Ego were constantly sold out last year, so get them now before they go again, as they’re a brilliant dupe of Hermes’ Chypre sandals (which cost £730!).

I remember seeing a picture of Kate Moss wearing a short suit to a wedding in 2006, and fell in love with the look there and then.

And I’m thrilled that, this season, the high street is full of these suits, but with longer shorts.

Now I’m a little older (and a little wobblier), a longer-length short is great for flattering the tops of my thighs and makes the style so much easier to wear for work.

I love this two-piece from M&S teamed with simple black separates like a tank and ballet flats.

I’m a big fan of the sheer trend, and this pair of The Row dupes are a steal from Massimo Dutti.

Then I’ll throw a tonal knit around my shoulders for evenings when the temperature drops.

Long gone are the days of me wearing denim shorts that only just cover my bum – now it’s all about the Bermuda length for me.

This pair of white denims from Stradivarius are perfect for my spring/ summer wardrobe.

They go with all colours and you can dress them up or down, meaning they’re perfect for holidays as well as everyday wear.

I’ve gone for a pop of colour with this orange vest top, and a shirt over the top adds an extra layer for the slightly cooler spring months.

I have these sandals from Dune in a similar style from last year and not only are they super comfortable, but they’re also great quality.

I’ve finished things off with a touch of gold jewellery and a raffia bag that will hold everything I need.

I’ve been a huge fan of Bermuda shorts for years.

As a child of the seventies, growing up watching TV shows like The Love Boat, Fantasy Island and Magnum PI, Bermuda shorts have always been on my fashion radar!

A true Bermuda sits about 1in above the knee – but there are no style rules now, so wear your tailored shorts as long or short as you like!

Every year I wonder: ‘Will my knees be too wrinkly for shorts this year?’

And then I think: ‘Whatevs!’ and I wear them anyway!

This spring, I’ve gone for these Arket Bermudas, which are a slightly shorter length but feel very premium in silk.

This look is my summer-in-the-city go-to, but I’d also wear the shorts on hols with a Breton stripe.
