Cheryl and Liam Payne’s son Bear accidentally ended up speaking to the nation in a live radio broadcast that no one, not even his famous mum, saw coming.

The Girls Aloud singer, 40, and One Direction hitmaker, 30, welcomed their first and only child in 2017 before the couple split in 2018.

Bear is largely kept out of the public eye despite the fame of his parents – until he decided to appear on BBC Radio 1, that is.

Appearing on the Breakfast Show with host Greg James, Little Mix star Perrie Edwards decided to give her pal Cheryl a call live on air while the duo played Sit Down Stand Up, a game where they have to guess if the person on the other end of the line is sitting down or standing up when they answer.

Perrie, who confessed to calling Cheryl ‘every five seconds’ at one time, guessed sitting down, while Greg said she would be standing – but they were both in for a shock when it wasn’t the pop star who answered.

Seven-year-old Bear picked up the phone and said he was sitting down much to Perrie’s delight.

Greg then revealed he was on the radio, with Bear saying hello – which is when Cheryl could be heard in the background in complete disbelief.

‘It’s a surprise for all of us, but it’s very nice to talk to you,’ Greg said, while Cheryl and Perrie laughed.

‘This is a bit random,’ Cheryl said, still sounding totally shocked, before having a quick catch-up with Greg, who revealed his own wild encounter with Cheryl in recent weeks.

‘I wanted to apologise I was leaving the building a few weeks ago, I was getting out of the lift, and to my surprise all of Girls Aloud was standing at the lift and I absolutely panicked,’ Greg admitted.

‘It was like looking at a mirage because I was just trying to go home and I was so knackered.’

In another twist during the chaotic radio show, Cheryl revealed her own random recent encounter with the radio host.

‘I actually saw you a couple of weeks ago as well,’ she said, with it now being Greg’s turn to look perplexed.

‘I was in my card and you were on your bike in town. I was trying to get your attention,’ she continued.

Greg said she should have beeped her car horn at him, with Cheryl saying she ‘didn’t want to draw it to everyone else.’

Cheryl ended the call by revealing it was her first time on the radio ‘now everyone knows her’ before Bear wished Perrie good luck with her new music, which includes her upcoming debut album Forget About Us.

Our hearts are sufficiently warmed.
