Arrested Development could be giving The Simpsons a run for its money after predicting testicles would be aired on the news 20 years before it happened.

RCG Media in Mexico made the almighty blunder last week when it aired what it thought was footage from the solar eclipse but was in reality a prankster’s genitalia.

A similar incident happened on a 2004 episode of Arrested Development titled Sad Sack during which news stations broadcast a picture of Tobias Fünke’s (David Cross) testicles.

Journalists had believed the picture – taken by Tobias while he was in the bath – was of the Iraqi landscape and therefore proof that his family’s firm, the Bluth Company, had been constructing homes in the country.

Several fans on X pointed out that Arrested Development season 2 episode 5 had foreseen the hilarious gaffe on Mexican TV.

Fiona Small commented: ‘This was a storyline on Arrested Development.

Simon Tam added: ‘According to TMZ, a Mexican news station accidentally aired testicles instead of the solar eclipse so of course I thought of when Arrested Development had something similar.’

RCG Media saw the funny side of the mistake and on social media in a post translated from Spanish wrote ‘How did you see the #eclipse? Ours was….’ and they then shared two egg emojis.’

In the clip, three RCG anchors can be seen discussing the eclipse and watching impressive footage sent in from a viewer in Arizona, before the next video begins airing.

The anchor continues talking as the testicles descend, and while one female anchor gasps, it takes the other two a moment to realise what’s going on.

She gasps again and puts her hands on the desk as the male anchor carries on talking – and then the show continues with no reference to the mistake.

Arrested Development, which centreson the misadventures of the Bluth family, ran for five seasons between 2003 and 2019.

It starred actors including Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat.

If Arrested Development carries on with accurate predictions, it could be the next The Simpsons.

The cartoon’s creators have somehow correctly guessing some of the biggest world events, including Donald Trump’s presidency, parts of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the World Cup winners and even last year’s Titanic submersible tragedy.

Arrested Development is available to stream on Netflix.
