From trousers and jackets to dresses that will see you right through the seasons, the hottest piece of clothing right now is the utility skirt.

The Pure Cotton Maxi Utility Skirt is made from pure cotton for a breathable feel.

The product description for the “utility-inspired parachute skirt” reads: “It’s designed in a maxi length, with an elasticated waistband for a comfy fit.

“The pockets at the front add a practical touch.”

It comes in three colours: black, hunter green and ecru, and is priced at £32.50.

It is also available in three lengths – petite, regular and long – and sizes range from six to 24 meaning any body can wear it.

So far, the product has received a solid five-star rating, with many happy customers leaving glowing reviews.

Someone with the username OldCrow63 commented: “I have this skirt in Khaki and it’s absolutely lovely.

“True to size and looks fantastic on too. Highly recommend as a wardrobe staple.”

LizzieLizzie25 wrote: “I really love this skirt, it’s comfy and fits well. I’m not one for being smartly dressed so this relaxed look suits me well.”

Mas added: “Very nice fit, very comfortable and can dress up it down.”

Noddy65 said: “Totally love this skirt, Great colour lots of pockets elastic waist and you can adjust to what you want, got size 8 petite and at 5ft 2in.

With it’s elasticated waistband, it fits any body shape perfectly

“[It] is just perfect for warmer weather, can’t wait to wear [it].”

And another with the username Squit wrote: “It’s not often that a skirt fits both hips & waist but the drawstring waist is perfect allowing for this.

“Lovely rich khaki, perfect for spring. I did order petite & it’s a perfect midi now for my 5’6 height.”

The brand’s Tummy Control Printed Square Neck Swimsuit is also a trending product.

As is the “elegant” chinos that will see you through spring, summer and into autumn.

M&S is the UK’s best retailer for women’s wear, but what is behind the turnaround?

Catherine Shuttleworth, a retail expert and the founder of Savvy Marketing said: “This is going to sound really stupid, but the only way to do well in womenswear is to design and sell what women want to wear.”

M&S clothes were once seen as “frumpy” and only something your mum or nan would wear – but now, it’s appealing to women of all ages, including Gen Z and Millennials, as well as those who have one eye on Vogue and another one value.

Catherine added that “understanding who [the customer] is and what she wants” has been central to the turnaround.

Why Everyone Is Loving M&S

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale revealed to Fabulous why M&S is the shop of the moment. She explained:

“M&S has really pulled it out of the bag this season, there is so much good product to be excited about.
“A brand once known for its ‘frumpy fashion’ that notion is long gone with it now being one of the leading high street stores for womenswear.
“Its handbag range in particular is super strong with them selling 170% vs plan, with lots more designer dupes for just a fraction of the price.
“The brand is now also the #1 for style perceptions, compared to the #3 spot it had last year, this comes from a really strong design team focused on modernising the brand, not only taking into consideration how the pieces look, but how easy they are to wear also.
“Price is also a big factor with you being able to get many good quality pieces all for under £30.
“After having a sneak peak of the upcoming collection there are so many more amazing pieces that are dropping over the next few months to keep your eyes on.
“Think leopard print dresses, colourful co-ords, embroidered boho jackets, plus lots of swimwear and amazing accessories, as well as great wardrobe staples that will last year on year.”
