WWE star Tony Jones dies aged 53: ‘Rest in power’-Kitty Chrisp-Entertainment – Metro

Former WWE wrestler Tony Jones has died aged 53.

All Pro Wrestling confirmed the news on their official social media page, as they shared a photo of Jones.

‘All Pro Wrestling is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former APW Universal Heavyweight Champion, “Shooter” Tony Jones,’ the accompanying statement read, adding: ‘Shooter, Rest in Power.

‘Enjoy paradise with your Baby Girl. We’ll always love you brother. Anthony “Shooter” Jones 1971 – 2024.’

No cause of death has been revealed.

Best-known as The Shooter to ring fans, Tony was an APW Universal Heavyweight Champion.

Jones appeared in WWE in 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2007. He had a daughter, Selina, who died as a child. He also had a son.

The heavyweight was perhaps most famed for his role alongside his on-off tag team partner Mike Modest, 52, in Barry W Blaustein’s 1999 documentary Beyond the Mat.

Tributes have poured in, as the organisation’s CEO Markus Mac also sent a personal message, as he wrote: ‘Rest In Peace “The Shooter” Tony Jones.

‘My condolences to Tony’s family, friends and fans. Love you always my brother.’

Pro wrestler Frankie Kazarian called Jones a ‘humble, driven man’.

Taking to X, he wrote: ‘RIP “Shooter” Tony Jones. Tony was a mainstay in the Cali Bay Area for years. I had many wars with him in NorCal and SoCal, and a lot of good times.

‘Always a great, humble and driven man. Very sad news. Godspeed sir.’

Wrestler Toby Reynolds also wrote: ‘RIP Tony Jones. Tony was always a kind man who’d pop up at shows and the locker room would be thrilled to see him. Thank you for everything Tony. Gone way too soon.’

Fans also took to social media to pay their condolences, as Christopher Willis wrote: ‘My first ever wrestling show was at pro wrestling iron international challenge vol 1.

‘When I first saw “Shooter” Tony Jones That man was something special. He was very talented, and very underrated. RIP “Shooter” Tony Jones.’
