It’s a wildly different project to the Prince Andrew drama.

Billie Piper has written the first draft of a new romantic comedy movie following her explosive performance in Prince Andrew drama Scoop.

The Doctor Who actress most recently appeared as Sam McAlister in the Netflix project which depicts the infamous Newsnight interview between the disgraced Royal (Rufus Sewell) and Emily Maitlis (Gillian Anderson).

And she’s now revealed on a recent episode of the Table Manners podcast that she has written a script for her next feature after writing and directing 2019’s Rare Beast.

‘I’ve literally finished my first draft last week,’ she shared. ‘I say it’s a first draft, it’s like the vomit draft so it is just more of a purge of ideas, then I’ll refine it to a first draft and then probably 18 more drafts down the line.’

The 41-year-old explained that once she’s happy with the script, she will shop it around and see if ‘anyone wants to buy it’.

Divulging further details about the project, Billie jokingly said: ‘It’s a romantic comedy but it’s not that romantic or that funny at this moment, it’s dark, but that’s really my skill set, I think, the darker comedy stuff.’

When podcast co-host and singer Jessie Ware asked if she would star in the feature, Billie admitted she probably would, even though she vowed to never star in and direct the same film after making Rare Beasts.

‘I said I would never be in something that I’m directing ever again but now I’m like, “I guess I’ll be in it too,”‘ she continued.

‘I think so, I don’t know, I have no idea. Also, it may never even see the light of day.’

Billie made her directorial debut with Rare Beasts, a psychological romantic drama film which also starred Leo Bill, David Thewlis and Lily James.

In Scoop, Billie stars as Sam McAlister, the Newsnight producer who spent a year behind the scenes, working tirelessly to get the Duke of York in front of Emily Maitlis.

To embody Sam, the former 90s popstar had to wear a peroxide blonde, long, wavy wig that set back producers a whooping £11,000.

Billie, whose movies and TV shows include I Hate Suzie, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Catherine Called Birdy, said it was the ‘most expensive’ she had ever worn.

Sam wrote the book – Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews – the Netflix film was based on and served as an executive producer on the project.

Billie spent a lot of time – both on and off set – with Sam to perfect her mannerisms, previously telling Metro.co.uk her presence was a ‘gift’ for an actress.

‘I didn’t really have the access to many filmed appearances of Sam – there were one or two that I regularly binged,’ she said.
