I thrifted a $35 bag that looked unassuming to the untrained eye – but once I saw the lining I knew its real value

A FRUGAL find turned out to be way more valuable than one would think at first glance.

One savvy shopper said she knew the value of the second-hand style as soon as she checked the lining.

Helena (@yooon_ie) filmed herself shopping at the thrift store in a viral video on TikTok.

She pulled out a black leather purse, examining the quality of the piece.

“An assuming black bag to the untrained eye,” she said.

The real value of the thrift store find was tucked inside of the lining, revealing its worth.

TELL TALE SIGNS

Once Helena opened the bag, she found the key to its true origins.

“Made in New York City Coach?” she added. “For $34.99? You know the drill.”

Helena went to work on the bag, first giving it a good wash to clear any unwanted debris.

After some sleuthing, she figured that the purse must be from the early 80s — and the signs of aging were there.

She pointed out several blemishes on the bag and even a zipper issue, but didn’t seem fazed by it all.

Helena used a small vacuum to clean out any excess build up inside of the purse.

After using traditional leather cleaner, she decided to pull out the big guns and glaze the bag.

Finally, she washed the purse by hand using water and a gentle dish soap.

She dried it using a towel on the outside and filling the bag with microfiber towels.

Finally she used some saddle soap as well as leather lotion to bring the piece back to life.

She also adjusted parts of the bag where metal was exposed.

The result was a revived Coach bag that clearly looked like it had a glow up.

CROWD REACTION

Several TikTokers chimed in to rave over the results of the designer purse revival.

“You have inspired me to try and restore a vintage Coach bag I have,” one wrote. “Thank you.”

“I bought this bag in brown in the early 90s I still have it,” another added. “Thanks for showing me how to clean her up.”

“I have this in olive green,” a third commented. “I thrifted it, too, for about the same price.”

“I recognized it immediately,” yet another wrote. “That’s my Nana’s bag.”

She originally found the bag in need of some tender love and care, noticing it was a vintage Coach bag right awayTikTok yooon_ie
