Stylist, and head of ITV’s costume department, David O’Brien is also a fan of finding hidden gemsRex

Stylist David O’Brien, who is also Head of Costume at ITV, is responsible for the ensembles, and said the 47-year-old is a “dream to work with”.

“She loves fashion and has a great style aesthetic,” he told Grazia Daily.

“We love to make fashion and clothes fun and playful. At the moment, we are loving the whole 70’s vibe with lots of texture and colour.”

And when it comes to the brands he most often chooses for Cat to wear on screen, David said: “Hush, Boden and Mint Velvet are all great quality, as well as more affordable high street favourites such as Zara, River Island and Mango.”

He also likes choosing pieces from French brand Sézane – with Princess Catherine, Selena Gomez and Sienna Miller also fans of the label.

As for accessories, David likes searching for hidden gems.

“Vintage shops are great for finding interesting pieces such as belts or that fabulous one off find,” he added.

“I’m also a fan of eBay and other resale platforms along with rummaging in TK Maxx.”

He also enjoys customising items for Cat, to ensure they suit her willowy figure.

“We have a fantastic yellow River Island waistcoat suit with a wide leg pant that wasn’t working for us so we cropped the trousers and made them into shorts, paired with a vintage choker of Cats,” David smiled.

“We’re awaiting sunny weather to wear the look now.

“It’s all about playfulness again – having fun and feeling comfortable to try new things.

“Look at what’s happening in high-end fashion on the runway and tailor ideas to your budget.”

And David hopes that other people will consider making alterations to their clothes to fit their figures and styles.

“Change hem lines – shorten dresses, lengthen trouser hems,” he concluded.

“Switch buttons.

“Simply changing a belt can elevate an outfit.”
