Janette Manrara has issued a health warning to her fans after opting to get treatment.

The host of Strictly Come Dancing’s spin-off It Takes Two and Morning Live admitted that she hasn’t always taken precautions when being out in the sun.

Growing up in Miami she was exposed to warmer climes, but often went without sunscreen so she’s been left with pigmentation. Now, she’s begun a micro-needling course to combat it and has an important message for her Instagram followers.

In capital letters, she told them in no uncertain terms: ‘WEAR SUNSCREEN!’ It is advised that everybody should wear SPF every day no matter the weather to prevent any burning, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and decrease the likelihood of skin ageing prematurely.

Speaking about her own journey Janette explained that it was her second time getting work to help with her skin.

‘Had my second session of micro-needling today w/ @theaestheticsdoctor. We’ve been working together to help with my pigmentation from years of not being careful in the sun in Miami! ☀️,’ she wrote.

Her second time in the doctor’s chair receiving the gifted treatment took things further to rejuvenate the skin.

‘We went a little deeper this time w/ the needles, but it was not too painful at all. Now we wait for the skin to naturally rejuvenate over the next few days.

‘I love #DrAhmed because he understands that I want to work on my skin, but as naturally as possible. I’m not afraid of ageing, but if I can give myself a little boost and help, why not?’ Janette shared.

In the accompanying video, Janette, 40, showed the treatment in action, which left her cheeks red. She joked it was lucky she was going to be at home for the next few days.

When skin is exposed to the sun it makes more brown pigment, called melanin, which creates a tan. In some instances, skin doesn’t create melanin evenly – this can lead to the skin’s colouring, called pigmentation, looking patchy.

Her chosen procedure to tackle it – micro-needling – involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny needles, which help the body to produce more collagen.

Getting more collagen – a protein in the skin – helps to improve the texture. Our bodies naturally produce the protein, that is also present in bones, hair, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, but the amount reduces through ageing.

For the appointment, Janette was joined by another special person – her daughter Lyra. She felt like a ‘proud mummy’ as the youngster behaved so well.

Janette welcomed her daughter in July with fellow dancer Aljaž Škorjanec and the besotted parents recently marked her eight-month birthday. They wrote: ‘Happy 8 months of joy w/ you in our lives little one.’

Prior to becoming a presenter on the BBC juggernaut, Janette was on the dance floor paired with celebrities including EastEnders actor Jake Wood and singer HRVY while competing on the BBC series between 2013 and 2020. Aljaž, 34, was also a dancer on Strictly until 2021 – he memorably won the show in 2013 with model Abbey Clancy.
