Fans of psychological thrillers are eagerly awaiting series premiere of the new six-part ITV drama Red Eye.

The show stars Richard Armitage, Jing Lusi, Jemma Moore, and Lesley Sharp and is already getting positive buzz from fans and critics alike.

Armitage spoke to Metro.co.uk about the series, saying: ‘When I read the script I was hoping it was going in a certain direction but thought it might be too expensive to produce.

‘It actually goes bigger than my imagination. It moves outside the plane and into politics, which really excited me.’

ITV head of drama Polly Hill said: ‘Red Eye is a brilliantly addictive thriller with an international story taking place on the red eye flight from Heathrow to Beijing. Thanks to Peter’s scripts, the story will have the audience gripped and continually surprised throughout.’

The writer of the series, Peter A Dowling, is known for his work on the 2005 thriller Flightplan starring Jodie Foster, and he described the show as ‘an Agatha Christie-type murder mystery on a plane.’

Here’s everything we know about the series ahead of the premiere.

What is Red Eye about?

The series is about a Dr accused of murder being extradited back to Beijing(Picture: ITV)

The show stars Armitage as Matthew Nolan, a doctor accused of murdering a woman in Beijing. He’s intercepted at the airport in London and immediately extradited to China to face the charges, escorted by officer Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi.

Given the nature of Nolan’s alleged crime, Li is understandably unhappy with the assignment. However, as the plane to Beijing departs, Nolan and Li realise something suspicious is going on and are forced to work together throughout the tense journey.

Journalist Jess Li, played by Jemma Moore, and MI5’s Madeline Delaney, played by Lesley Sharp, also get entangled in the conspiracy as the drama unfolds.
