How would you react if you inherited £600,000 from a relative you’d never met?
You’d probably be rather stunned, right? Well, that’s exactly how one woman reacted when she discovered the fortune she had been handed down.
In this week’s episode of the new property series, Key to a Fortune, airing on Channel 4, Janet is surprised to learn she’s the rightful heir to a beautiful, detached house in Potters Bar.
The property, just 13 miles north of central London, was left to her by a relative she never even knew she had.
After being tracked down by a team of expert fortune finders, Janet is taken by presenter, Jean Johansson, for her first look inside the impressive property.
While there, Janet learns the worth and potential of the place from expert Stuart Douglas.

In a clip from tonight’s episode (Sunday, April 21) Stuart reveals how much the house is worth in its current state.
‘I’ve done some research on this house and the current market value is in the region of £600,000.’
A shocked Janet responds: ‘Good grief… that is a lot of money, isn’t it?’
’And I bet that gives you a lot to think about as well,’ Jean offers.
Agreeing, Stuart adds: ‘It’s potentially life-changing.’
’Definitely,’ Janet nods.
But it doesn’t stop there, as Stuart has more revelations for Janet…
He adds: ‘But I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t try to maximise the potential in this house, and I think that we can increase that.’

Understandably, the property’s new owner is taken aback.
Amazed, Janet declares: ‘I think I need to sit down.’
She adds that such a ‘big’ sum of money has left her ‘speechless’.
Crackit Productions was commissioned by Channel 4 to produce a new series, Key to a Fortune, in 2022.
The programme is a transformational series that reunites families with homes and relatives they didn’t know they had, inspired by the fact that, each year in the UK, millions of pounds worth of vacant homes sit unclaimed.
Such hidden treasures belong to ordinary people who unknowing inheritors to treasured estates that were once owned by a distant relative who left no will.
Through the episodes, several benefactors for every property are revealed, including extended family members who have never heard of each other before.
Host Jean is on hand to them decide what to do with their windfall as families are brought together to discover their secret history.
Key to a Fortune airs Sunday at 5:30pm on Channel 4.
