David Arquette looked almost unrecognisable dressed up as Bozo The Clown for Bob Baker Day celebrations in Los Angeles

The Scream icon, 52, strapped on his giant red shoes and matching wig for the annual event, and he looked like he was having the time of his life.

Held at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater each year, Arquette could be seen walking around with balloons and a big smile on his face while dressed as the iconic clown.

His costume included a pale blue shirt and flared trousers with a dazzling silver ruff and sparkling pompoms, as well as the character’s signature clown nose, white gloves, and face paint with a large red smile.

He shared pictures of the fun on his Instagram page, complete with the aftermath of being pelted with cream pies and meeting fellow Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke.

The Never Been Kissed actor thanked everyone who came to the event, exploring others to ‘let their clown out’ in a video where he danced and posed for photos with attendees.

He loves the character so much that he even brought the rights to him in 2021 (Picture: Snorlax/MEGA)

It’s not the first time Arquette has been pictured clowning around as Bozo – in fact, he brought the rights to the character in 2021, becoming the first new owner in 65 years.

After falling in love with the character as a child, the horror legend explained how he made it his mission to ‘rehabilitate’ how people saw clowns following the release of films such as IT and IT: Chapter Two that turned them into villains.

‘I lived in Chicago sort of in a few years early on and fell in love with Bozo the Clown there and then went to the Ringling Brothers and then saw the whole circus and it just kind of blew my mind. I was like, OK, I love this whole world. So I’ve always loved it,’ he told Comic Book.

He said he wanted to ‘bring back like a silliness and innocence of fun’ that comes with clowns.

‘Like the pie fights and seltzer bottles, just silly goofy fun, which we just don’t have enough of,’ he continued.

‘It’s just like the kind of stuff that’s just just laugh out loud. Like, not taking yourself too seriously, enjoying life, you know, having self-confidence and having good friends and standing up for yourself, like, we’re teaching these little things not too heavy-handed, but kids have gone through a lot and they’re bombarded with these horror clowns right now. So we just want to sort of present a different alternative.’

In bringing back the clown, in 2022 he introduced the first female Bozo the Clown, Jozo Bozo, who was also the first woman of colour to portray the character.

He even went to great lengths to continue Bozo’s legacy, taking lessons on how to become a clown.

‘I’m working with an amazing organization called Healthy Humor. They go into hospitals and entertain people that are going through a tough time and make them smile and bring some joy and love and laughter into their lives,’ he said in an interview for Live with Kelly and Ryan.
