The surge in popularity behind Fallout 76 doesn’t seem to be slowing down, as the multiplayer title hits a new record high on Steam.

The success of the Fallout TV show caused a widespread spike in sales across various Fallout games, but one title especially has never been more popular.

Fallout 76, a multiplayer take on the Fallout franchise, was widely derided when it launched in 2018 due to technical issues and some baffling design choices. In the years since, however, it has gradually improved through several expansions.

The popularity of the Amazon TV adaptation, along with some well-timed discounts, led to a record amount of concurrent players in Fallout 76 on Steam last week. Now, that player count has almost doubled in size over the weekend.

As highlighted on SteamDB, Fallout 76 reached an all-time concurrent player peak of 73,368 on Sunday, April 21. For comparison, the previous Sunday saw 39,455 people playing the title.

It’s important to note that these numbers are only for one platform too, with Fallout 76 also available on PlayStation and Xbox – so the actual player count will be much higher. The game is also currently available at the discounted price of £6.99 on consoles.

This jump in players suggests the interest spike from the Fallout TV show might have longer legs than expected. While Fallout 76 has hit new levels of popularity, Fallout 4 has seen the biggest surge since the show came out, with over 164,000 players in the past 24 hours on Steam.

It is currently the tenth most played game on Steam, above Helldivers 2, while Fallout 76 is at number 36 (via Steam Charts).

Despite the renewed attention for Fallout, Bethesda recently confirmed it isn’t planning on shifting priorities from The Elder Scrolls 6 to Fallout 5 0 so we might not see another game for many years yet.

In the meantime, we’ll simply have to wait for the second season of the Fallout TV series, which was recently confirmed by Amazon.
