ITV thriller Red Eye has kept fans awake all night bingeing the gripping new series.

The six part drama, which stars Fool Me Once actor Richard Armitage as doctor Matthew Nolan, launched on Sunday night on ITV1 and ITVX and viewers already can’t get enough of the action.

The show followed Matthew, who is accused of murdering a woman in Beijing, and immediately gets sent back on the final flight of the day after landing in London.

DC Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi, is there to keep him in check, but she initially wants nothing to do with him outside of the job at hand.

It’s safe to say viewers couldn’t wait to find out what happens, with plenty of people going through the whole series in one night.

X user @KetvelinaA wrote: ‘I didn’t sleep until two o’clock in the morning, but I watched until the most magnificent ending. Intense, exciting and captivating.

‘#redeye ridiculous but still got me hooked,’ tweeted @kazzaaaaah, while @cheryl19899 agreed: ‘This #redeye is amazing. Obv I’ve gone straight to itvx to binge watch the whole series. Who needs sleep anyway 🤣 #itvx’

And @seasylvia2005 added: ‘Richard Armitage 😍 who cares if the plot is ridiculous! #RedEye’

The first episode features a memorable scene as Matthew stands up on a high surface in a busy airport and begs the general public for help.

In a twist during filming, instead of exclusively using extras for the shoot, plenty of people around on the day were just heading on their trips and didn’t know it was for a fictional TV show.

Performing the scene at Stansted airport was ‘hair-raising’ for Richard, who can vividly remember the reactions of those around him as he shouted out.

‘Some people were running into WH Smith going: “There’s a man being arrested”,’ Richard told Metro.co.uk.

‘I’d gone into a zone. You’re hyper-aware but also just focused on getting in, and getting out quickly. In a big packed room like that, getting out after they’ve yelled “cut” is my instinct. I had to go find somewhere to hide.’

Red Eye is available to stream on ITVX, with a new episode airing every Sunday at 9pm on ITV1.
