Gemma Atkinson is reportedly already in talks for the upcoming Celebrity Gladiators special.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, who reached the final of the BBC’s Latin and ballroom show in 2017, is set to test herself again in another very physical competition.

The 39-year-old actress was a huge fan of the gameshow during its original run on ITV in the 1990s, and it’s said her agent has opened discussions with bosses over an appearance on the revival.

Gemma heard that a celebrity special was in the pipeline, and said to her agent she would love to be involved,’ an insider told the Mirror.

‘Gladiators was Gemma’s favourite show as a kid, and, because she’s so into fitness now, it would be her dream gig. Talks are ongoing – the show team are thrilled that she is so keen.’

Back in 2018, the former Hollyoaks actress admitted it was actually iconic Gladiator Jet who inspired her own fitness journey.

‘This lady here [Jet] was the reason I started going to the gym and training,’ she wrote years before BBC brought the show back. ‘I used to love Gladiators.’

She’s in luck, with Beeb bosses deciding to commission a celebrity spin-off after the huge success of the comeback series.

Show producer Dan Baldwin, who is the managing director of Hungry Bear Media and Holly Willoughby’s husband, recently told BBC Radio 4: ‘I can reveal we are going to do a celebrity special.

‘You always look at old shows no longer on television. You are always coming up with new ways of bringing back a show.

‘There’s nothing wrong with that because those shows were great for a reason. We’ve always got an eye on what could come back and be a hit like Gladiators is.’

Finlay Anderson and Marie-Louise Nicholson were crowned Gladiators champions earlier this month after a tense final showdown and 11 weeks of gruelling challenes.

They took on challenges against the likes of Sabre, Fury and Steel, as the hit competition returned more than two decades after its original run, and now members of the public are clamouring to audition for series 2.

Metro.co.uk has contacted BBC and representatives for Gemma Atkinson for comment.
