The ‘bra and belly’ trend that’s already dominating summer fashion – as expert warns of 6 serious wardrobe malfunctions

WITH the second weekend of Coachella behind us, you don’t have to worry about your social feeds being drowned in sponsored influencer content anymore.

But if there’s one thing the star-studded music festival does every April (apart from taking over Instagram), it’s set the tone for upcoming summer fashion.

Taking place in hot California every spring, the festival is attended by everybody who’s somebody – think Kardashians, supermodels and chart-topping artists.

You’ll also catch British influencers and TV personalities posing in the Palm Springs desert, too.

And every year without fail, the dominating style trends at Coachella are transferred from social media to fast fashion websites quicker than you can press ‘like’.

However, this year’s overwhelming trend is one you’ll be safer NOT recreating.

The ‘bra and belly’ trend saw influencer attendees at Coachella 2024 stripped down to bras and low-rise bottoms, showing as much flesh as possible.

Love Island alum Chloe Burrows paired a tiny black bra and risque underboob with see-through lace trousers.

TikTok star Charli D’Amelio served serious knicker line in her bikini-esque two piece, covered only by a thin sheet of mesh below her hips.

Maura Higgins left little to the imagination with her barely-there see-through white dress.

Similarly, influencer Ella Thomas served a plethora of skimpy looks for her one million Instagram followers.

But don’t get any ideas for Glasto in June or Wireless in July.

NUDE NOTICE

Fabulous’ fashion expert Clemmie Fieldsend warns that this trend isn’t one that us normal folk should be racing to participate in.

“If you’ve ever been too enthusiastic on the dance floor, waving your arms in the air like you just don’t care, you may have experienced a wardrobe malfunction,” she says.

“This could be your top ripping or perhaps your skirt has ridden a little too high mid spin.

“It’s a wee bit embarrassing, but when the lights are low, it’s likely that just your mates have seen.

“But party go-ers wearing next to nothing this summer are asking for trouble – and everyone will see your malfunction in the sunshine.”

According to Clemmie, the “bra and belly trend comes with a lot of risks” and you shouldn’t be too keen to bare all.

In fact, there’s six major wardrobe malfunctions you’re risking.

“There’s a lot of nip slip potential from too-tight bra tops, as well as squashed underboobs that could also escape,” she says.

“There’s also your thong hanging out the back, which really doesn’t look good on anyone.

“Yes, it’s a trend that is on the rise thanks to the likes of Katy Perry and Megan The Stallion, but it’s best avoided for us normal folk.”

Clemmie also warned of how skimpy clothes equal fragile clothes – and you could be left baring all should a strap or string snap.

“Wearing so little material to contain your body could also mean that the strings of your top or bottoms could snap, meaning your look disintegrates altogether,” she warns.

What’s more, there’s a whole host of problems that come with wearing a tiny skirt.

“A bottom-grazing skirt could mean that even the slightest of bend could show the crowd your entire bum,” Clemmie says.

“And don’t forget, there’s still wind during British summer.

“Even a gentle gust of wind could mean that nothing is left to the imagination.”

Clemmie adds that if you were adding skimpy bras and see-through trousers to your online cart after seeing the Coachella looks, you should probably empty it.
