The Chase’s Jenny Ryan has spoken of feeling ‘vulnerable’ and anxious after being robbed at her home last week.

Jenny, 42, who features as quiz expert and formidable Chaser ‘The Vixen’ on the show, was left devastated after a man entered her flat on false pretences and stole valuable items.

After gaining entry to her home while citing a non-existent leak somewhere in the property, the man pretended to take pictures while claiming he would only be a couple of minutes.

Jenny told Morning Live on the BBC that the man then stole sentimental items – including a mobile phone and ‘irreplaceable’ jewellery – before making a break for it.

She sat down with Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton to run through the ordeal again, still looking severely affected by the awful incident.

‘It was an ordinary morning and I had a ring on the doorbell,’ she began. ‘I let someone into my block of flats. He told me the building manager was on his way, there’d been a leak, it was to do with the new kitchen.’

Jenny then explained that she had recently had a new kitchen fitted, and that the fitting had been organised by her landlord, so she saw no reason not to trust the man ringing her doorbell.

‘Maybe I questioned it a little bit. But I thought “We have had so many people in, it’s a quick job, go on I will let him in”,’ but the situation soon turned dark.

‘Unfortunately, he had some bad intentions, he ended up getting into my bedroom with the door closed’ – Jenny said it was then that the robber made his move.

‘When he left I’d realised he had taken my mobile phone and three pieces of jewellery that had been given to me by my parents for special occasions and are irreplaceable.

After the man had left, Jenny went to phone her landlord and revealed it was at that point that she realised her phone had been stolen.

She then admitted to Helen that she still felt ‘stupid’, adding: ‘I feel gullible that I let this happen. I know I shouldn’t be beating myself up too much as this was a very cunning scam.

‘He was so credible and he had a very slick story – once he was inside it was too late, it would be too dangerous for me to challenge him. I was by myself.’

She then admitted to still feeling ‘anxious’ and ‘vulnerable’ in her own home, and that the police are still ‘considering’ whether or not to investigate the incident.

”I’ve told them that there are probably fingerprints because he moved furniture, there’s lots of CCTV on my street and I know exactly where he went because I had the phone on tracker.’

Jenny joined The Chase in 2015, joining the line-up of Chasers along with Paul Sinha, Anne Hegerty, Shaun Wallace, and Mark Labbett.

Before appearing on the Bradley Walsh-hosted quiz show, she’d already been on Are You an Egg Head?, Mastermind, The Weakest Link, and part of a team that reached the semi-finals of University Challenge.
