British star Aaron Taylor-Johnson shut down a reporter in a terse exchange as rumours ramp up that he may be taking over the coveted James Bond role.

Since Daniel Craig announced his departure as 007 following his final Bond film, No Time To Die, in 2021 there has been one question on everyone’s lips. Who will take up the license to kill next?

From Luther star Idris Elba to Oscar-winning Irish actor Cillian Murphy and Witcher star Henry Cavill, no eligible lead male star has been left untouched by speculation.

In March, reports swirled that Eon Productions had offered the iconic gig to Taylor-Johnson, 33, but this was soon refuted by a production insider who told the BBC there was ‘no truth’ to the claims.

Nevertheless, as fans, Ed Balls and former Bond stars alike pose their thoughts on Taylor-Johnson’s potential casting it seems the heat has become all too much for the Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging screenstar.

During the premiere for his latest film The Fall Guy on Monday, AP asked the Nowhere Boy star on the red carpet if he gets ‘sick of being asked about Bond’.

After a painstaking pause, Taylor-Johnson bluntly replied: ‘You sick of asking the question?’ punctuated by a bitter chuckle.

‘I want to know, so no,’ the reporter responded, which led to Taylor-Johnson quickly shutting down any further conversation as he continued to laugh.

‘Alright, have a good one.’ he said, before waltzing away.

Taylor-Johnson’s wife and filmmaker Sam, 57, also addressed the rumours to Jonathan Ross on his ITV show, simply saying: ‘Carry on speculating, he’d be great.’

As Taylor-Johnson’s hopes of landing the action role look slimmer and slimmer, experts have claimed the casting is wide open once more. Despite Kingsman star Taron Egerton previously taking himself out the running, odds have dropped to 11/4, giving Taylor-Johnson a run for his money.

Last month ex-Bond actor George Lazenby, 84, who played the British spy in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service threw himself behind Taylor-Johnson saying he is tough enough for the role, should it be his.

As the wait to hear Craig’s replacement approaches four years, for now, it looks like there is still a way to go.
