WWE has continued to make cuts to its roster with another former champion released from their contract.

Wrestler Cameron Grimes, real name Trevor Lee, has been fired by the sports entertainment juggernaut after a five year spell which saw him capture the North American and Million Dollar Championships.

He confirmed the news in a heartbreaking video on social media as he broke down in tears and revealed he had just got off the phone to management.

‘Unfortunately, I have been released from my contract,’ he said, visibly choked up as he recalled telling his father he had signed to the company in 2019, before his death.

He cried: ‘I loved working here, I loved working at the WWE. I wanna thank absolutely everybody that’s helped me – I can sit here and name off a list of people, but the video might be a bit too long.

‘Even though you guys haven’t seen me in the past year, I’ve been trying my best to learn from everybody that’s come through, everybody that would let me sit there and listen.

‘But if you’re a fan of mine, I’m here to let you know that there’s a damn fire lit under my ass man. All I wanna do is work, all I’ve ever wanted to do is work. This is all I got, man!’

However, the underdog star vowed to come back stronger and prove a point to those who made the decision to cut him from the roster.

‘The good news is, there ain’t gonna be no stopping Trevor Lee now, let me tell you that. I love you guys, if you’re watching this I love you. We’re gonna figure this out,’ he said.

‘This isn’t what I wanted to do at all. The WWE is all I’ve ever wanted to do or be. But if I have to go somewhere else now to show ’em that they missed out… I guess that’s what I gotta do. Thank you guys.’

Grimes was part of the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal over WrestleMania Weekend in Philadelphia, and his final match was a loss to Bron Breakker on the April 12 edition of SmackDown.

Jinder Mahal, Veer and Sanga were also released this week (Picture: WWE)

Before then, he hadn’t appeared on television since an episode of NXT in November 2023, despite putting in a lot of effort to stand out.

Just this week, WWE has cut a number of names from its various rosters, including former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, and his Indus Sher teammates Veer Mahan and Sanga.

SmackDown’s Xia Li – WWE’s first female Chinese superstar – has also been cut, along with Xyon Quinn and heavyweight Von Wagner, who were both mainly featured on NXT.
