Jennifer Lopez is making another film and this time she’s diving into science fiction in what has been brutally dubbed ‘AI propaganda’.

Netflix revealed the first trailer for Atlas starring Jenny from the Block, who is hot off her autobiographical movie musical chaos which failed to wow viewers.

Joining the Shotgun Wedding actress is Barbie’s Simu Liu as a villainous AI named Harlan, plus Sterling K. Brown, Abraham Popoola, and Mark Strong.

The synopsis reads: ‘A brilliant data analyst with a deep distrust of AI finds it may be her only hope when a mission to capture a renegade robot goes awry.’

Scientist forced to confront their distrust of technology they created to save the day is not a groundbreaking topic for sci-fi but something about JLo’s film has rubbed fans the wrong way.

Quickly, many dismissed Atlas as a push to ‘convince us’ that AI isn’t bad, after Netflix was hit with criticism for using it in a documentary.

‘Why do I feel this film might just be Netflix trying to convince us all that AI is cool actually and we should just fully embrace it,’ wrote Timon Singh on X.

Lucidxunicorn shared: ‘Y’all made a movie about humans trusting A.I in order to fight evil A.I using your A.I algorithm? insane 😭✋🏾.’

‘Oh great an A.I. is good propaganda movie 😐,’ wrote FabianGabrielR6 as foul_g added: ‘I’m gonna watch it, for sure, but, this is just Hollywood making AI sound cool because corporate said so.’

Others complained that it felt like they’d ‘seen the whole movie’ in the lengthy two and a half minute long trailer.

The length of the trailer was also highly criticised (Picture: Netflix)

However, some did have a more positive view on the film’s potential (Picture: Netflix)

Elkowalczuk scathed: ‘This is very good movie, thank you Netflix. 2 minutes and 35 seconds tells the whole story perfectly.’

‘That’s a good trailer — but feels like I’ve just watched the entire movie 🤣,’ jokeddoncroiix as EJ added: ‘I feel like I just watched the whole movie 🤩.’

‘Netflix really make 1 good film out of 100 they release and this is not one of them 🗑️,’ added user hvssxin.

Atlas failed to impress some with criticisms of ‘stinker’ and ‘terrible’ being thrown around, although some did praise JLo for ‘branching out’.

‘Between this and Rebel Moon we are really spoiled, thank you Netflix 😍,’ shared florenzo84, referring to Zack Snyder’s sci-fi franchise.

Part two of Rebel Moon has just dropped on Netflix, with the SuckerPunch director previously stating the first instalment had more viewers than Barbie.

Jennifer has recently starred in This Is Me… Now, a semi-autobiographical movie punctuated by songs written and sung by the Maid in Manhattan star.

The movie was panned by viewers and the companion documentary has become an internet joke thanks to clips going viral.

Like it or loathe it, Atlas is set to hit Netflix on May 24.
