Two crew members have been hospitalised, and several more injured, after a ‘freak accident’ on the set of Eddie Murphy’s new film.

Murphy is currently shooting comedy movie The Pickup, also starring Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson, near Atlanta, Georgia.

On Tuesday night, it was confirmed that a car and truck had collided on set on Saturday, during shooting for a rehearsed scene.

The truck was reported as locking up and striking the other vehicle in a ‘freak accident’ after all proper safety precautions had been taken.

Of the two crew members taken to hospital, one remains under medical care there while the other has been discharged.

No names have been released, but injuries include broken bones, bruises and bumps according to the Associated Press, and everyone injured is expected to make a full recovery.

Neither Murphy, who was also recently filming for his Beverly Hills Cop comeback, nor his co-stars were on set at the time of the collision as it was being shot by the production’s second unit team, which films sections of the film that don’t involve its principal actors.

‘It was a completely freak accident,’ a source told AP. ‘It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.’

‘Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result,’ an Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson told the publication.

‘We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.

‘The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.’

The studio did not disclose any further information as to the injuries sustained nor roles of the crew involved in the accident.

Reps for IATSE (the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), the union that represents film crew members in the US, revealed to AP that an inquiry has begun into the incident, but they were unable to provide further details.

The Pickup is being directed by Tim Story, who previously helmed the likes of Barbershop, 2022 horror The Blackening and 2005’s Fantastic Four.

No details have yet been released about its plot, but the movie also stars Eva Longoria, Andrew Dice Clay and The Rings of Power actor Ismael Cruz Cordova.

The film is yet to receive a release date, but according to AP it is not expected to face delays due to the accident.
