Bethesda’s Fallout surge continues in the wake of the TV adaptation, as Fallout 76 hits a new player milestone.
The Fallout TV series has led to a significant bump in sales across various Fallout games, but one of them in particular has never been so popular.
Fallout 76, a multiplayer take on the series, was widely derided when it launched in 2018, but it has gradually improved through several expansions since.
Since the Amazon TV show launched earlier this month a record number of players have flocked to Fallout 76 – with Bethesda now claiming the title has clocked over one million players in a single day.
‘Thank you to the over one million of you who adventured with us in Fallout 76 in a single day,’ the publisher wrote on Twitter. ‘And almost five million across all Fallout games in a single day.’
In response to the post, Jonathan Rush, creative director for Bethesda Game Studios, added: ‘It’s amazing to see the large influx of new Appalachian Adventurers, and how our awesome community has welcomed them. A very exciting moment with many (many) more to come!’
Fallout 76 achieved a new all-time peak player count of 73,368 on Steam last week. However, its success is not just due to the TV show but the fact that the game has been heavily discounted and is currently available on PlayStation and Xbox for just £6.99.

While Fallout 76 has hit new heights, Fallout 4 has seen the biggest surge in players since the TV show dropped. According to Steam Charts, it is currently the tenth most played game on the platform, ahead of Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2.
The renewed attention around Fallout hasn’t caused Bethesda to fast track development on Fallout 5 however, with The Elder Scrolls 6 still the ‘focus’ for the studio – and that isn’t expected until around 2028.
