Veterans of the Fallout games are giving new fans some questionable advice, that has seen them rushing into a nest of Deathclaws.

Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV series has given a huge boost to the veteran video games franchise, , with Fallout 4 entering the top 10 played games on Steam and Fallout: New Vegas beating all previous records.

The resurgence is likely to continue, as Bethesda is about to release a big update that aims to bring 2015’s Fallout 4 to 2024 with improved graphics and a new quest.

As the Fallout player community grows, however, veterans are taking advantage of clueless newbies, pointing them in the direction of some of the game’s most challenging locations.

The trend seems to have started on Twitter, where a new player said they had picked up the game for the first time, and was greeted by a veteran who said:

‘You should visit Quarry Junction! There’s some awesome loot there.’

Fallout: New Vegas fans will know that’s a bad idea because Quarry Junction is a hotbed for Deathclaws, one of the most dangerous creatures in the game, meaning certain death for new players.

The newcomer who got trolled then tried the same prank himself, by targeting another Twitter user new to New Vegas, by saying:

‘FYI [for you information], Quarry Junction is full of great loot. It can really help you in the early game,’ and in another tweet added an image of a Deathclaw, saying, ‘Pro tip: the big purple bee things ain’t s***. Go ahead and rush them. They’re total pushovers.’

The harsh initiation joke has made its way to Reddit as well, where one post with over 7,000 upvotes is leading new fans to Nellis Air Force Base, another very unforgiving location in New Vegas.

The post is titled: ‘Attention all new Fallout: New Vegas players, there’s a mid-game location many people overlook that has AMAZING loot.’

It even advises players to ignore the warning sign outside the base and the non-player character who alerts you to the dangers ahead, with the Reddit post saying:

‘Head STRAIGHT here after reaching New Vegas. The man out front and the signs around him are LYING to you. He wants to keep all of the caps, weapons, armour, and ammo inside to HIMSELF.’

At this point the joke has become so widespread that you’d have to be particularly bad at picking up on red flags to fall for it.

In a way though, the joke replicates the harshness and unforgiving nature of the Fallout wasteland, where everyone is out to get you.

That being said, Lucy from the Fallout TV series would certainly disapprove, as this is all very non-golden rule by the veterans of the game.
