Jessie Ware reveals controversial roast dinner opinion that could upset Brits everywhere-Laura Harman-Entertainment – Metro

Thanks to her hit podcast, Table Manners, which is on its 16th series, Jessie Ware is as known for her love of good food nearly as much as her music.

The singer’s hit podcast with her chef mother, Lennie Ware, has delighted listeners since it launched in November 2017 with memorable guests ranging from Hollywood stars to sporting legends.

Jessie isn’t known for holding back her opinions about food in her podcast- even if they’re controversial. The singer constantly reminds listeners that she is NOT a fan of potatoes and has previously commented that she thinks marmalade and marmite ‘work’ as a flavour combination – much to the disgust of many fans.

In a move that’s likely to surprise the masses, the beloved singer has now confessed something rather contentious when it comes to a roast dinner.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the Spotlight singer revealed that she is simply not a fan of one of the most popular British pastimes – having a roast dinner in a pub.

‘I always say that roasts are never as good as when you cook them at home,’ she declared.

Roast dinners are of course sacred in the UK, with research suggesting that 1.2 billion roasts are served every year in the UK and with many saying that a pub roast lunch is a quintessential part of British culture.

The star confessed, though, that she may have to change this opinion as some of her guests are steadfast in their commitment to a restaurant roast, particularly Chef Tommy Banks who has a Michelin-starred restaurant.

‘Tommy Banks did say on the podcast that he begs to differ. So I’m going to go to the Black Swan in York and try Tommy Banks,’ she said.

Speaking of roast dinners, Jessie, 39, recently invited Billie Piper onto her podcast and the pair discussed the Scoop star’s love of mint sauce – whatever the roast.

The Say You Love Me singer admitted she’d happily slap some mint sauce on her roast dinners.

‘I love a condiment too and I love Billie Piper. So, to be fair, you’ve got to respect the mint sauce appreciation. Whatever floats your boat!’

Jessie confessed: ‘To be honest, if Billie Piper told me to do anything. I’d probably do it.’

When asked about the podcast and if any memorable moments were left on the cutting room floor, the star confessed that a lot of ‘brilliant clips’ don’t make their way onto the final edit.

‘Lennie’s the person that says no to things, we’ve got so many brilliant clips of my mother, usually berating me and she doesn’t allow many of them on.

She then joked: ‘So basically, when me and mom break up the band, I’m gonna put them all online.’

The Free Yourself singer revealed that she’s loyal to a classic English fry-up, adding that baked beans are a ‘perfect’ addition.

‘Anybody that suggests that beans are disgusting I really have a problem with because I think they are perfect.’

When asked about her perfect way to eat an egg she replied simply that ‘an egg can never really fail me.’

‘I don’t think there could be possibly a worst way to eat an egg because as I speak to you now, I’ve just fried some. I’ll have an egg any way.’

Jessie added that Nigella Lawson influenced her recent love of Vegemite – Australia’s answer to Marmite.

‘I always kind of dissed it before and Nigella Lawson was always like, “Vegemite is the one”, and I’m now following in Nigella’s footsteps with my appreciation of it.’

When asked if this was perhaps her current food obsession she answered: ‘I eat all the time babe, I’m essentially obsessed with food so I eat everything.’

Jessie is set for a jam-packed summer with 19 performances lined up throughout the summer across Europe.

Despite her hectic schedule, the star has landed a new role as a brand ambassador for Singleton whiskey, and told us about how the spirit is a versatile drink that she loves ‘neat in a tumbler’ or in a ‘zesty’ cocktail.

She said: ‘We have Singleton whiskey cocktails and it’s for any occasion.’

When it comes to cocktails the star admits she likes them on the strong side. The singer’s drink of choice is a ‘dirty vodka martini, but filthy and extra olives.’

Strategically, she enjoys her cocktails with an extra snack-factor: ‘I’ll have as many olives as they put in there because then it’s a snack as well.’

Table Manners season 16 continues every Wednesday.
