Twitch streamer Sketch, the man behind the famous ‘What’s up, brother?’ meme, gets to announce a draft pick for NFL team Houston Texans.

Sometimes it really pays to be a superfan, whether that’s a Twitch viewer being helped by his favourite streamer to win £870,000 in a gameshow, or loving a sports team so much that it gives you one of its biggest honours.

Twitch streamer Sketch is very much the latter when it comes to American football and has been seen many times meeting players and playing Madden NFL 24 on stream, wearing the shirt of his favourite team: the Houston Texans.

For his devotion, Sketch has been given the chance to announce one of the team’s upcoming draft picks – when teams select from a pool of non-pro players – a huge honour very few people get to do.

Houston Texans announced the news on Twitter, while copying Sketch’s famous catchphrase: ‘What’s up, brother?’ with an emoji of a finger pointing up (also one of Sketch’s well-known mannerisms).

Sketch is quite possibly the biggest sensation in the streaming world so far in 2024, having seen his following grow from 33,000 in December last year to 798,000 on Twitch today.

He’s also got 1.1 million followers on Instagram and 1.8 million on TikTok, where he first became famous while streaming gaming content.

Sketch’s meteoric rise is partly down to his catchphrase becoming a meme but it’s still very impressive, and his fans are probably as excited as Sketch himself.

The draft is segmented into three and takes place Friday at 1am BST, then 12am on Saturday, and finally 5pm on Saturday, but it’s not clear when Sketch will pick a player for the Texans.
