Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian’s love for film almost saw her arrested during a bizarre airport blunder involving Hugh Grant.

The Austin Powers actress, 58, is set to star in son Damian’s, 22, directorial debut Strictly Confidential, which has already garnered plenty of attention due to Liz’s steamy sex scenes in the film’s trailer.

The mother-son duo have always enjoyed a close relationship, though that certainly sounds like it was put to the test in a bizarre story Damian recalled in a recent interview.

Speaking about his upcoming film, he shared how Liz encouraged Damian’s love for film from an early age.

‘When my mother gave me my first camcorder for my eighth birthday, a despot was born. From that moment, all I wanted was to write and direct movies,’ he revealed to Tatler.

However, this motherly love was soon about to come back and bite her when it almost saw her arrested for seemingly attempting to murder Damian’s godfather Hugh Grant. Yes, really.

Liz and Hugh dated for 13 years before splitting in 2000, but remained close friends with Hugh being named as Damian’s godfather when he was born in 2002 following Liz’s romance with businessman Steve Bing.

‘I tortured every friend and family member I could get my hands on to act in my self-written, self-directed short films, and I dragged whole suitcases of props, lights and costumes on every vacation,’ he continued.

‘My finest moment was nearly getting my mother arrested en route to St Moritz when I made her chase my long-suffering godfather Hugh Grant around Zurich airport with a fake dagger, bellowing that she was going to skin him alive.’

But Elizabeth’s nurturing approach to Damian’s passions paid off with him releasing his first feature film on April 5 in the US.

The controversial film has been slammed as ‘perverse’ as Damian films his mother in a scene where her character Lily is intimate Pear Chiravara’s Natasha.

While the steamy sequence has outraged fans, Damian has stated it felt ‘normal’ to film his mother in the compromising positions shown in the film’s trailer.

Liz has also called out the ‘fuss’ surrounding the film, saying she is unbothered by audience reactions.

‘People are making a lot of fuss,’ she insisted in a new interview. ‘I think there’s a lot of factors making it a particularly interesting scene for people.’

Unpacking what those might be, she noted to People Magazine that there is an age gap with her 28-year-old co-star, Pear.

‘The fact that I’m doing it, and I’ve never really done a scene like that before,’ she suggested.

However, Elizabeth vowed that there are some scenes that can be seen as ‘daring’, but she wanted to dispel the notion of ‘nudity’ and exploitation.
