80s movie star unrecognisable in rare sighting after vanishing from spotlight-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro

An 80s movie star rarely seen in public has been spotted looking worlds away from his former self at a Sydney beach.

Yahoo Serious, real name Greg Gomez Pead, shot to fame after writing, producing, directing, and starring in his cult 1988 film Young Einstein.

But he vanished from the spotlight after his last film 2000’s Mr Accident, only making a handful of public appearances in the decades since.

In a rare sighting earlier this week, Yahoo was seen enjoying a trip to the sea and looked unrecognizable from his heyday.

The now 70-year-old was spotted enjoying the sunshine Down Under and had swapped his previous more eccentric outfits for blue shorts and sunglasses.

He also wore his grey hair long and straight with a matching beard, a different look from his former voluminous auburn ‘do.

Yahoo is believed to have last spoken publicly in 2019 at a screening of Young Einstein to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

When asked about his future ambitions, he said according to The Guardian: ‘I have been writing and I hope to continue to make some more movies.’

Yahoo co-wrote co-produced, edited, and directed his first film, Coaltown, aged 21 before finding fame with Young Einstein.

The eccentric film follows a young farmer in Tasmania who comes up with the formula E=mc2 accidentally while trying to discover how to create a mass of beer bubbles.

He goes on to develop rock music and surfing, romances Marie Curie and saves Paris from an atomic bomb.

Following the success of the film in Australia, he was profiled by Time Magazine and was placed on the publication’s front cover.

In 1993, Yahoo released his next film Reckless Kelly, about an Australian bank robber who also becomes a Hollywood movie star.

Seven years later, he made his final movie Mr Accident, which follows an accident-prone maintenance man at an egg factory who attempts to stop his boss lacing the yolks with nicotine.

The same year, he also tried to sue search engine Yahoo for copyright infringement.

However, the case was dismissed because Yahoo (the actor) had no evidence he sold goods or services under the name Yahoo.

Yahoo was previously married to Lulu Pinkus but they separated in 2007. It is not known if he is currently in a relationship.

His last on-screen credit was in short documentary film In the Cannes in 2007.
