After various reports claimed Nintendo’s next console had been delayed to March 2025, it seems a 2024 launch hasn’t been entirely written off.
There’s been a wave of alleged leaks around Nintendo’s successor to the Switch over the past week, indicating details about the console have made their way to manufacturers and component suppliers.
A report last week, citing manufacturing sources, claimed the so-called Switch 2 will have magnetic Joy-Cons. This was followed by a more comprehensive breakdown, which claimed the console will support 1080p resolution in handheld mode, a dock with 4K resolution, and will feature additional buttons on new and larger Joy-Con controllers.
Another report has now made further claims about what’s under the console’s hood, along with a hopeful indication that it could, potentially, still come out in 2024 – despite earlier reports suggesting it had been delayed until early 2025.
According to a report on Korean outlet Maeil Business Newspaper (later reportedby BusinessKorea), which cites ‘industry sources’, the follow-up to the Switch is expected to launch ‘as early as the second half of this year’. Supposedly, this was made possible by parts suppliers having ‘reached a considerable degree of agreement’ in regards to initial production contracts.
While this might suggest the Switch 2 could go into production earlier than expected, lining it up for a potential launch in 2024, prior reports cited the reason for the delay was a lack of first party software – so Nintendo might simply be getting a head start on the manufacturing process and still end up waiting until 2025 for a stronger software line-up.
The same report also claims Samsung is heavily involved in the Switch 2, with the company expected to fabricate the system’s Tegra T239 chip on behalf of Nvidia.
Samsung will also apparently provide NAND storage solutions for both the console’s cartridges and internal memory, along with the display screen in handheld mode.

Nintendo has not yet announced anything about its next console, but various reports have suggested it will be backwards compatible and will feature a bigger 8-inch LCD screen.
Regardless of when they’re aiming to release the new console, Nintendo currently has no new games scheduled for the second half of the year, which strongly suggests the Switch 2 was originally intended to be released this year – and that Nintendo has little to fill in for its absence.
The biggest question at the moment is when Nintendo will reveal the Switch successor. The company recently confirmed it won’t be at Gamescom in August and yet if the new console were to be released this year that would’ve been an ideal opportunity to announce it and/or allow for its first public demonstration.
