Cher, 77, dates younger men because everyone her own age is ‘dead’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

Cher got very honest when discussing why she dates younger men, amid her ongoing romance with boyfriend Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, after admitting that she once turned down Elvis.

The Believe singer, 77, is currently dating the music producer, 38, after the couple were first linked in 2022.

She has previously spoken out against the reaction to their relationship, and shrugged off criticism relating to their 39-year age gap.

In a new interview, the music icon revealed that she can be ‘shy’ when approaching men – but often found that people her own age were always ‘terrified’ to speak to her.

During an appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show, the host questioned why she decided not to pursue her bond with Elvis Presley.

‘It was because I was nervous, I knew the people around him…,’ she replied. ‘It wasn’t that they were bad people, it’s just that I was nervous of his reputation. I’m really shy when I’m not working, and kind of shy around men.

‘The reason I got with young men is because men my age or older – well now they’re all dead – but before, they were always terrified to approach me.

‘Younger men were the only ones that… They were raised by women like me.’

Cher briefly met Alexander at an event during Paris Fashion Week in September, 2022, and they have been inseparable ever since.

They were pictured together for the first time two months later, and have since met each other’s families.

The If I Could Turn Back Time musician previously shed light on how they started dating, explaining that a mutual friend gave out her phone number after their initial meeting.

Chatting to People Magazine, she confessed that she broke her own rules when jumping into the relationship – but wasn’t surprised by all the headlines it generated.

‘It was really shocking, because people just don’t give out my number,’ she said at the time. ‘I had been telling all my friends, “We’re too old to go out with really younger men, and I will never fall in love on text.” So I did what I said not to do!

‘No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun. What I learned is that it’s never too late. If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, “Well, this is doomed.”

‘But we’ve been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time.’

‘If you have happiness, you can’t think about how long it’s going to last,’ she added. ‘You have to think about “How does it feel?” and live in the moment.’
