Fern Britton has claimed Dame Joan Collins is ‘a bit iffy with women’ after interviewing the star.

The former This Morning host is best known for presenting the ITV breakfast programme from 1999 until 2009, first with John Leslie and then Phillip Schofield.

However, her eventual exit was full of drama due to a well-publicised fall out with her co-host, who she ‘no longer speaks to’.

After appearing on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, Fern has now given a wide-ranging interview, which included making comparisons to her replacement Holly Willoughby.

Fern, 66, said she believed some stars weren’t threatened by her as she wasn’t trying to ‘measure up’ with her looks.

‘I’ve never been considered glam. When you are a great beauty like Holly Willoughby for instance, she has that beautiful face,’ she said of Holly, 43.

‘She’s a beauty. I didn’t ever have that. I’ve never been judged by that, which has also been very handy,’ she added when speaking to Bella magazine, as reported by the Daily Mail.

She then singled out Dame Joans as someone who she got along well with despite claims the actress could be difficult when interacting with other women.

‘Every time I’ve met Joan Collins, who can be a bit iffy with women, she’s been absolutely charming because I’m clearly not trying to measure myself up to her. That makes life much easier,’ she added.

In the interview, Fern went on to claim that ITV bosses hadn’t ‘connected’ with her because she was ‘never a diva’.

She said she ‘hated having smoke blown up my a**e’ and wasn’t good at ‘simpering around bosses’.

Instead, she wanted to ‘go home and be with the kids’, a move she said didn’t fit in with the ‘instruction book for female presenters’.

Despite previously having one of the top jobs on TV, Fern last month said she wasn’t eying off a return to screens.

‘I would still obviously love to do the odd bits and pieces but I had my time in the sun and it’s time for younger people to come through and I’ve always thought that,’ she said during an appearance on Lorraine.

‘A bit of work here and there is lovely but I’m not expecting anything special.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
