Ireland Baldwin has raised eyebrows online for calling an interaction Anne Hathaway had with a group of fans ‘insufferable.’

The model, 28, who is actor Alec Baldwin’s oldest child, recently shared a video of Hathaway, 41, to her Instagram story along with some scathing commentary.

The video depicts the Mothers’ Instinct star trying to calmly explain to a horde of fans that she will sign autographs for all of them, as long as they calm down and step back.

Baldwin reposted an Instagram reel of the moment with the comment: ‘This is insufferable lol but go off.’

Hathaway is speaking in a calm slow voice in the reel, trying to deescalate the fervor of the fan’s clamoring to get close to her.

She gestures at them to stop back repeatedly as she attempts to create some space between herself and the group of admirers.

She can be heard saying amidst the noise of the crowd: ‘I would really like it everybody could just… [she makes a hand motion indicating calming down] I’m going to get to everybody, everybody just relax. Please don’t push forward. If you all step back we can do this together, I’m going to get to everybody, so. Thank you.’

The reel was first posted to Instagram by user @elderordonez1, and some commenters on the original post seem to agree with Baldwin’s take on the moment.

User @dve00s_ commented: ‘She is so condescending it’s embarrassing to watch.’

@sashacita echoed Baldwin’s opinion, writing: ‘I’m sorry but I find this so insufferable lmao.’

But others felt the moment reflected well on Hathaway.

@italianswagger4 commented: ‘She is such a classy woman.’

@always_cold_carrie agreed that Hathaway did nothing wrong, adding: ‘This is her thing and it’s probably helped keep things calm for her bc this would legit give me so much anxiety.’

Several commented on the frenzied behaviour of the fans in the video. User @tnick35_ll wrote: ‘People acting like this for celebrities is so weird to me. I would never ask someone for a signature. Good for her to protect herself. This behavior is so alarming and scary.’

This is not the first time Hathaway has faced criticism for the way she interacts with fans.

In February a clip of the actress addressing fans in Rome in a similar tone of voice went viral, with many divided on whether she was being rude or merely respectfully setting firm boundaries.

This is also not the first time in recent weeks that Baldwin, who recently gave birth to her first child, has stirred up controversy.

She posted a throwback selfie of her and Kevin Spacey, who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple men, in celebration of Oscars weekend last month.

After facing backlash, she wrote on Instagram: ‘In honor of the Oscars this weekend, I shared an Oscar story from the archives. It has nothing to do with anyone in this picture but my oh my, this didn’t age well! Not a Morbius photobomb!

‘You can’t make up the s**t I’ve been through people. Link in bio to subscribe to my Substack.

‘I should add, for those easily triggered, Kevin Spacey is not in this story! I repeat, Kevin Spacey is NOT in this story. Rest assured.’

In the comments, she later added: ‘I think I have to add this just to be crystal clear – Kevin Spacey is a terrible person. My story has nothing to do with him.’

Metro.co.uk reached out to Hathaway and Baldwin for comment but have not heard back at time of writing.
