Unexpected, to say the least.

Brian McFadden has appeared to kick off a bit of rather random celebrity beef on X with Star Wars icon Mark Hamill.

The Westlife singer, 44, seemingly took exception to Hamill’s views on the upcoming London mayoral election taking place tomorrow (Thursday May 2).

And the Irish star was not afraid to make that known.

Hamill, 72, had taken to the social media platform on Tuesday night to share his support for current mayor, Sadiq Khan.

‘I LOVE London! Lived there for years while filming & our 1st child was born there, in St. John’s Wood,’ he began his post, which also featured a photo of him with Mr Khan at a black-tie event.

He continued: ‘I wholeheartedly support Sadiq Khan for Mayor on May 2. He’s been a driving force in cleaning up London’s air & choosing #HopeOverFear For a fairer, safer & greener London, please vote for Sadiq Khan!’

Hamill’s son Nathan was born during production on 1980 Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back.

He also shares Griffin and Chelsea with wife Marilou York, who he wed in 1978.

Less than an hour after the sci-fi icon’s original post, McFadden had shared it on his own account, adding ‘Deluded!!!!’ as his sole comment on the matter.

From that, we may be able to deduce who wouldn’t capture his vote, were the Flying Without Wings chart-topper a resident of the capital.

McFadden resides in Rochdale with his fiancée Danielle Parkinson and their two-year-old daughter, Ruby.

The Dancing On Ice star also shares Molly, 22, and 21-year-old Lily-Sue with ex-wife Kerry Katona, a former Atomic Kitten star.

The singer, who is currently in musical duo Boyzlife with fellow Irish crooner an actor Keith Duffy, 49, previously of chart rivals Boyzone.

It’s not the first time he’s waded into politics either.

Back in March, McFadden appeared fed up of the divides between political views, tweeting: ‘The left celebs want you to take the vaccine and hate Trump. The right celebs want you to take CBD gummies with their discount code. Why don’t you all f**k off. Let us make up our own minds! You numptys.’

Famously, in May 2019 he had claimed that former US President Donald Trump was ‘exactly what Britain needs’.

He made the observation while criticising the leading candidates for Prime Minister at the time, then-current Conservative PM ‘borris’ and Labour party leader ‘Jeremy’.

He wrote in a tweet: ‘The fact that borris [sic], farage and Jeremy are the front runners to be prime minister is scary! Britain is f**ked!!! Literally f**ked!’

He added: ‘Incredible how many brits jump on the anti trump bandwagon. He’s exactly what Britain needs!

‘A Britain first at all costs attitude is essential.’

The London mayoral election takes place tomorrow, alongside local elections for thousands of council seats across the UK, with polling booths open from 7am until 10pm.

Former actor and Reclaim Party leader Laurence Fox, who ran against Mr Khan in the last race to be named Mayor of London, was unable to join the ballot this year after messing up his paperwork.
