Malcolm in the Middle fans have been shocked by how the sitcom’s house looks today

Malcolm in the Middle fans can’t quite believe their eyes after finding out what the sitcom’s home looks like today.

Running from 2000 until 2006, the American comedy series followed a dysfunctional lower-middle-class family and starred Frankie Muniz in the lead role as Malcolm, a child prodigy.

Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston played his parents Lois and Hal, with Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield and Erik Per Sullivan starring as his brothers Francis, Reese and Dewey.

Throughout its run the series was nominated for 33 Emmy Awards, as well as being recognised at the Golden Globes on several occasions.

However nearly 20 years after it ended, fans have been left devastated after being shown what happened to the family’s home.

In the show, that home was located on 12334 Maple Boulevard, an unassuming street where the bungalow property sat back from the road and was partially hidden by a tree in the yard.

According to an Entertainment Weekly article published in 2000, the owner earned between $3,000 (£2,400) and $4,000 a day whenever filming took place on the premises.

However, in mid-2001 they put the property on the market.

Although scenes continued to be set there throughout the TV series’ run, images of what it looks like today shows a dramatic transformation.

The real address is 12334 Cantura Street in Studio City, California, with fans still visiting to take snaps.

One has now revealed that it’s totally unrecognisable and has been rebuilt.

Instead of a humble bungalow it’s now a two-storey modernist style home, largely made of concrete with a manicured lawn in the front garden, which is closed off by a small wall and fence.

After getting a glimpse, Malcolm in the Middle fans didn’t hold back when sharing their opinions of the design.

‘Transformed from a classic to an abomination. Such a shame,’ one person commented on a Reddit thread.

‘I’m disgusted how dare they get rid of a Malcolm in the Middle house?! Especially replacing it with that ugly thing, how dare they!’ another shared.

Another added: ‘They clearly aren’t fans of the show, this house could’ve been a landmark.’

Meanwhile someone else said the owners should have kept it as it was because it would be a ‘huge flex’ to say they live in the sitcom’s house.

Others also suggested it may have been radically transformed to deter fans from turning up and taking photos.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is also currently on the market, with the selling price listed at £3,150,000 (£2.39 million).

In the past few years, the doors of famous homes have also been open to the public, with the digs featured on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air available on Airbnb.

Malcolm in the Middle is streaming on Disney Plus.
