Madonna is known for reinventing herself, as she has done countless times over her career, but her latest transformation to look just like 90s comedy film icon The Mask is really quite something.

When Jim Carrey slathered on bright green face paint and made cinematic history in the hit 1994 comedy The Mask, it was all leading to this moment: Madonna accidentally cosplaying as the eccentric superhero.

The usually very glamorous 65-year-old music legend is currently in Brazil, Rio De Janerio, as she prepares for the epic finale to The Celebration Tour in a oceanfront free concert this Saturday.

It is expected to draw up to two million fans for a historic night of music.

And if the rehearsal is anything to go by, fans are in for a treat. The Like A Virgin hitmaker wore a shining black kimono and a neon green mask while playing the guitar on Thursday.

Rolling Stone Brasil captured the Material Girl wearing the latex gimp-style mask as she sang 1989 tune Express Yourself to hundreds of fans who had gathered to watch the sound check. La Isla Bonita was another firm crowd favourite.

Elsewhere in the rehearsal she sang Music while Brazillian icons such as Cacique Raoni, Marina Silva, Marta appeared on the screen behind her.

It’s understood Madonna stylistically decided to emulate one of Jim’s most iconic characters for safety purposes, also swapping in a black option. And she was definitely committing to the look.

The superstar has drawn countless eyes with her bold outfit choices over her 50-year career, although they are usually more grounded in reality.

From her leotard and fishnet tights combo, to her numerous Marilyn Monroe inspired outfits to the Catholic cross aesthetic she has rocked over the years – Madonna is constantly experimenting with her style.

As her grand Celebration Tour comes to an end, Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek marked her final surprise celebrity guest. Salma, 57, attended Madonna’s Mexico City concert dressed as Frida Kahlo.

‘Not only was my show complete in Mexico- but my entire artistic career!!

‘She has always been my Eternal Muse Cheering me on through the good Times and the bad,’ Madonna penned in a heartfelt Instagram post about Salma.

Now in Brazil, Madonna is supported by her six children, Lourdes Leon, 27, Rocco Ritchie, 23, David Banda, 18, Mercy James, 18, and twins Stella and Estere, 11.

She also took to social media to pay her gratitude to her ‘incredibly talented’ children for standing by her through thick and thin.

‘Their enthusiasm kept me Going!!! They were also going to school and rehearsing every night. !! Am so very proud of all of them,’ she wrote.

Madonna was forced to postpone the start of the tour last year after going through a ‘near death experience’ that involved an induced coma.

After making a valiant recovery, The Celebration Tour kicked off in the O2 Arena in London in October before through Europe.

Although the concert tour has been a huge success, it hasn’t been without its bumps. In January two concertgoers sued the Vogue artist for starting her December 13 show more than two hours late.

Madonna’s team responded by explaining that they encountered technical difficulties.

Madonna’s final free concert for her Celebration Tour will take at Copacabana beach on a ‘first come first serve’ basis on Saturday May 4.
