Lizzo has been hit with backlash after claiming anyone who didn’t like her Met Gala 2024 look was ‘fatphobic’.

The evening was filled with celebrities from Sydney Sweeney to Lana Del Rey with fans weighing in on their bold fashion offerings and judging each one ruthlessly.

The 36-year-old singer leaned into the Garden of Time theme for this year’s huge New York fashion event dressing as a … well frankly nobody is sure.

Her nude illusion petal filled gown flicked upwards at the bottom, with a scooping design to hold rose petals — which was mirrored in the headpiece.

According to fans the dress was ‘giving Groot eleganza’ and ‘dog cone energy’ but Lizzo, who was wracked by controversy last year, has doubled down on her look.

‘If I’m not in ur best dressed, ur fatphobic,’ she wrote in her caption while posting a series of snaps from the event.

The comment hasn’t sat well with fans who immediately called out the Yitty founder, who is outspoken about society’s fatphobia and body image pressures.

However, fans were not kind to the look despite Lizzo’s declaration.

‘And she thinks she ate with that caption lmao,’ wrote Cain Pawel in her comments as Penny Thomas added: ‘Love you, but someone did you wrong. Fire the stylist girl.’

‘Im not fatphobic I just dont like the headpiece,’ said Moon as others compared it to the Teletubbies or a ‘rain catcher’.

Over on X people were much less polite about their criticism as a whole host of people responded saying they ‘guess [they’re] fatphobic now’.

‘Her comment made me hate the dress ngl,’ joked Nayla as Lashana Walker added: ‘This was not at all flattering she is so lucky Joan Rivers is no longer with us.’

Many questioned why the Juice singer was invited to the event in the first place given the fact she was ‘cancelled’ previously.

Last year Lizzo’s plus size friendly and all inclusive branding was shaken as former dancers made several allegations against her for abusive working conditions.

The About Damn Time singer and her team were accused in August of inappropriate behaviour, including sexual, racial, and religious discrimination and harassment.

Lizzo has strongly denied the allegations and has moved to have the cases thrown out but no final decision appears to have been made from the courts.

After the heat died down, she returned to social media and shared some new Yitty launches flying under the radar and not releasing any new music.

While she might be back in celebrity circles, it seems the court of public opinion has not swung in Lizzo’s favour this time around.
