Frasier fans thrilled as iconic character returns for season two: ‘This is what we need’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

Production on the second season of the Frasier revival has kicked off, with a very familiar face returning to the fold.

Kelsey Grammer reprised his role as the stuffy psychiatrist in the Paramount+ revival last year, surrounded by a brand new cast.

He switched Seattle for Boston and was joined by Nicholas Lyndhurst, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Anders Keith, Jess Salgueiro and Toks Olagundoye.

Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith Sternin in both Cheers and Frasier, popped up in one episode, while Roz Doyle actress Peri Gilpin made a surprise appearance in the finale.

Although we’re still waiting for David Hyde Pierce to reclaim his part of Niles Crane, it has now been confirmed that Peri has been bumped up to a recurring guest star for the upcoming series.

Fans couldn’t get enough of the announcement and flocked to social media to celebrate Roz’s return.

Cheering the news on Reddit, Kingofwishful penned: ‘Our Queen Rozalinda is back.’

Throw_blanket04 replied: ‘Yay! This is what we need.’

‘I’d love to see her in every episode,’ Devonairo agreed.

As JasonGryphon predicted we could eventually see the character’s daughter, Alice, make a move with her.

‘Eventually Roz will more likely move to Boston,’ they suggested. ‘One day Alice will show up and it will spark a love interest for Freddy or David.’

Filming has started, with James Burrows slated to direct the first two episodes – but it is currently unclear when the program will premiere.

Peri played the radio producer for the entire run of the original series, and was a firm favorite with viewers.

She returned for the season finale of the revival at the end of last year – but was only on our screens for a matter of minutes.

Lifting the lid on coming back to the Frasier universe after nearly two decades away, she shared that things were ‘bittersweet’ without her former castmates – in the wake of Martin Crane star John Mahoney’s death.

‘I just loved getting to do it,’ she told Entertainment Weekly. ‘It was a fantasy come true to play that part again and to go back into that world.

‘And there’s bittersweet things because it makes me so sad when I think about John. I miss him. He was a great friend, but I feel like they dealt with that.

‘They go back to John every chance they can and they refer back. They refer back to Cheers. They refer back to our first Frasier and I feel like we’re kind of a part of it. It felt very comfortable there and wonderful and it was really funny. It’s like a comfort when you watch it.

‘You’re like, “Oh my gosh, I get to see this again. It’s new, it’s fresh, but I am getting the same feelings I got from watching it the first time.”’

Frasier is available to stream on Paramount+ now.
