Hollywood icon Orlando Bloom starred in some of the most beloved films of the 00s, but there’s one movie he would happily forget.

From his role as Legolas in Lord of the Rings to the dashing Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean, the A-List star captured the globe with his larger-than-life characters.

But now he’s admitted his famed role in 2004 film Troy was one character he ‘didn’t want to play’. Orlando, 47, played Paris, the prince of Troy who causes the mythic Trojan War after running off with the wife of Greek king Menelaus, Helen.

The star-studded film also featured Brad Pitt as Achilles, Diane Kruger as Helen, Sean Bean as Odysseus, Brian Cox as Agamemnon and Peter O’Toole as Priam in this wildly popular big screen mythological retelling.

The box office smash made $497million (£396million) worldwide during its theatrical release, according to IMDb.

But the historical epic, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, received mixed critic reviews at the time and now Orlando is sharing that he never wished to star in Troy in the first place.

While being tested on famous quotes from his characters throughout the years, Orlando mislabelled the Troy line ‘Do you love me brother? Will you protect me from any enemy’ as one from Kingdom of Heaven or Lord of the Rings.

‘I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain by the way,’ the screen star shared to Variety. ‘So many people love that movie, but for me playing that character was just like [slits throat].

‘Am I allowed to say all of these things? I didn’t want to do the movie. I didn’t want to play this character.’

Although he clarified the ‘movie was great’ he felt his character ‘was completely against everything I felt in my being’.

He points to one scene where Paris has to crawl across the floor after being beaten and hold his brother’s leg.

‘I was like, “I’m not going to be able to do this.” One of my agents at the time said, “But that’s the moment that will make it!” And I completely fell for that line of an agent. I think that’s why I blanked that from my mind,’ he explained.

Nowadays the actor seems much happier with his movie roles. Last year he playedDanny, based on real-life character Darren Cox, in the racing film Gran Turismo

As he told Metro.co.uk during Cannes last year: ‘I really just responded to [director] Neill when he approached me about the idea of this script and the idea of a true story about Jann Mardenborough, a kid from Wales who dreamed big enough and got to drive cars, and still is today.

‘I was like, “Oh that’s cool, it’s a movie for dreamers.’

Orlando has been with popstar Katy Perry since 2016, with the lovebirds planning to tie the knot in the near future. They share a three-year-old daughter, Daisy.
