WWE has finished the first round of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments but fans are convinced the whole thing is cursed.

The finals will be held at the titular premium live event in Saudi Arabia on May 25, and despite the first round only getting underway a week ago, plenty of big names have already been removed across Raw and SmackDown.

An ‘injury bug’ has been devastating WWE’s rosters, and poor Zelina Vega is the latest superstar to miss out, following on from Xavier Woods, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Asuka.

She was due to face Shayna Baszler at the WWE Live Supershow in Macon, Georgia on Sunday night, but Raw General Manager Adam Pearce made the disappointing announcement just before the vent.

The latest update has fans convinced the tournament as a whole is doomed, with such high profile names forced out of the first round.

‘The King and Queen of the Ring Tournament is cursed,’ claimed X user @Divas_Champion, while @CadillcanCarson agreed: ‘This tournament is freakin cursed.’

Fan @_Wrestlstorian added: ‘Is it just me or does this year’s #WWE King of The Ring Tournament seem a bit cursed!?!? Everyone is getting hurt before they even have a match in the tournament!!!’

‘I’m convinced that the king of the ring tournament is cursed at this point, tweeted @rabidwolfgames1, and @Chatothebear wrote: ‘Both the men’s and the women’s tournament has been cursed. All these injuries happening. It sucks. Hopefully everyone gets back better than ever!’

And @MazaQuinncae ranted: ‘WTF?! ZELINA’S INJURED TOO?? BRUH, THIS KING AND QUEEN OF THE RING TOURNAMENT REALLY IS CURSED WTFFFFFFFF ://////

‘At this point, I want it shut down and restarted later in the year – this is depressing 😭 #WWE’

Announcing the latest setback on social media, Adam Pearce said: ‘I have a bit of unfortunate injury news. Zelina Vega will not be medically cleared to compete tonight and therefor will be stepping out of the Queen of the Ring tournament.

He admitted the news was ‘unfortunate’, particularly given Zelina’s ‘past history as a Queen of the Ring’.

‘It would’ve been nice to see her try to regain that crown – but injury bug strikes again,’ he added. ‘Injuries happen guys, that’s just the way it is. Changes need to be made.’

She was replaced by Maxxine Dupri, who came up short with Shayna progressing, and the 2022 queen admitted she was devastated to be out of the tournament.

She wrote: ‘Heartbroken.. being the first ever, that crown was mi alma y corazón! That being said, I’m super grateful to have a history making moment in the @WWE history books. The 8yr old me is still super proud.

‘@QoSBaszler this ain’t over. You can be Queen of Spades, keep them playing cards.. I’ll forever be the first EVER @WWE Queen Of The Ring.’

GUNTHER and Kofi Kingston will meet in the quarter finals after the latter beat Rey Mysterio over the weekend, while Jey Uso will face a tough challenge in the form of the intense Ija Dragunov.

On the SmackDown side for the men’s tournament, Randy Orton takes on rising star Carmelo Hayes, and LA Knight battles Tama Tonga.

For the women’s quarter finals, Shayna will now take on Iyo Sky, with Lyra Valkyria facing Zoey Stark.

Meanwhile Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair could meet in the semi finals if they beat their respective opponents Tiffany Stratton and Bianca Belair.

When are the WWE King and Queen of the Ring finals?

The WWE King and Queen of the Ring tournament finals will both take place on the premium live event of the same name later this month.

WWE will return to Saudi Arabia on May 25 for the special show, which will see the tournaments come to an end as the winners of the Raw and SmackDown brackets collide.

Elsewhere on the show, Becky Lynch defends the Women’s World Title against Liv Morgan and Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn faces Chad Gable and Bronson Reed, while Logan Paul and Cody Rhodes collide in a Champion versus Champion bout.
