Eamonn Holmes has revealed he recently spent a stint in hospital after suffering chronic issues with back pain for three years.

The former This Morning presenter has had ongoing health problems since three discs slipped in his back in 2021 and said earlier this year he now uses a wheelchair.

In his latest update on Monday, Eamonn said he was hospitalised for a week but did not disclose the reason for his stay while presenting GB News.

Discussing medication offered to patients on the channel, he said:Medicine’s way of dealing with this is to say, “Oh we’ll not give you an antibiotic or have half a headache tablet instead of a full headache tablet.” That’s not the right way either.

‘I was in hospital the past week and the medication I was taking before I went into hospital compared to the medication I got in hospital made me keep saying, “Just let me know, are you doing this for cost reasons or medical reasons or does no one have a clue”‘

‘I sort of felt like no one had a clue at the end of the day.’

His co-host Isobel Webster said: ‘It’s like after childbirth they’ll only give you paracetamol and it’s like “Are you kidding me?’ I’ve basically been through a car crash”.’

In January, Eamonn said his health issues which prevented him from travelling to Belfast for the funeral of his mother, Josie, last year.

‘It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair. I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly, you could not make it up,’ he revealed on GB News, also saying that he could not walk following the operation.

The Northern Irish presenter lost ‘full mobility’ after he underwent spinal surgery in 2022 following chronic issues with back pain and has shared regular health updates.

Speaking about the toll his poor health had taken, he explained: ‘I get resentful that I’m not the way I used to be but I just get on with it.’

He added to the Mirror: ‘I work hard at trying to walk. It’s very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me.’

In September, Eamonn, who is married to Ruth Langsford, 63, said he would go to extreme lengths to cure his ailments.

He said: ‘Ruth [Langsford] shakes her head if I’ve been trying an alternative treatment, but honestly, I would drink horse pee if it worked for me.

‘I spend a lot of money on trying to get better.’

He has also spoken about cruel trolls who have commented on his use of a mobility scooter on social media.

‘Well, some people were mocking me on social media last night,’ Eamonn started as he explained what the public’s reaction had been to his declining health.

He continued telling Best magazine: ‘”Oh, look at Eamonn, he’s in a mobility scooter!” I replied, saying: “I would prefer if I wasn’t in it but how else would I have got around?”

‘The alternative is I don’t go anywhere, and I sit in my armchair, work in the office. So, I go out…It’s mentally uplifting to get out.’

The star first experienced back pain which came out of nowhere in 2021 and later discovered he had three slipped disks, affecting the mobility in his right leg.

Eamonn underwent spinal surgery last year but suffered a major setback when he fell down the stairs at the Surrey home he shares with Loose Women star Ruth.

He also revealed he’d had his ‘spine stretched’ as part of his back treatment, which promised to elongate his back.
