The Fallout 4 updates aren’t as popular as the TV show (Bethesda)

The latest Fallout 4 update has introduced even more new bugs and stopped mods from working entirely, as fans voice their disapproval.

In coordination with the release of the Fallout TV series in April, developer Bethesda gave 2015’s Fallout 4 a facelift with updated graphics and gameplay, thanks to the long-awaited next gen update.

It was great timing, because the success of the TV show saw player numbers for several Fallout games, including Fallout 4, shoot through the roof. But the update was full of bugs and stopped most fan modifications from working, to the point where two of the most popular mods on NexusMods were to revert the update.

Bethesda has just released another update, mostly focused on sorting out the bugs of the first, but fans aren’t happy, as some bugs still remain and the mod situation is even worse.

A number of posts have surface on social media and the Fallout 4 Steam community forum, complaining about bugs and asking Bethesda to stop updating the game.

One poster says they experience ‘constant crashing after the latest update,’ another complained that the Fallout 4 Script Extender, F4SE, which is used to create mods in the game, isn’t working.

‘Why are people still playing?’ asks Jeem on the Fallout 4’s Steam forum, adding:

‘I don’t remember Fallout 4 being in a worse state than it is now. The game was always buggy but never broken like this. Bethesda/Microsoft obviously have no intention of ever really fixing it.’

A fan on Reddit also wasn’t happy, saying, ‘I’ve been playing on PlayStation 5 and my character model/Pip Boy turn invisible constantly. It’s one of the most frustrating bugs I have ever experienced.’

The success of the Fallout TV series has shown just how effective an adaptation can be at resurrecting older games, but Fallout 4’s comeback hasn’t been a smooth ride.

The two updates in the aftermath of the TV series’ release have done both good and bad, and now it looks like a third update will be needed to fix the first two.
