Olly Alexander has broken his silence about his Eurovision loss as he spoke about the ‘iconic’ way he received zero points from the public.

The 2024 Song Contest took place this weekend with Switzerland coming out on top with an incredible victory with their act Nemo who sang The Code.

In a disappointing twist for British fans, the UK seemed to perform well and received points from other countries, but scored zero points in the public vote.

Olly, 33, smiled and cheered after hearing about the disappointing result on live television and has now taken to social media to reveal his real thoughts.

The Years & Years frontman said in a post on Instagram: ‘Eurovision 2024 is over !! i’m so happy for @nemothings 😍 – they’re amazingly talented and the sweetest, kindest person 🏆 🤩

‘Honestly I don’t know where to even begin with this whole experience, I’m going to be processing things for a long time!

‘For now I just want to say I am so proud of the performance and my team, everybody absolutely smashed it and gave it their all to bring the vision to life 🥊 🚿 🌀 !!

‘I met so many talented wonderful people on and off the stage and i’m really thankful we were able to support eachother throughout.’

The star then called the lack of points ‘iconic’: ‘Though we may have received NIL Points from the voting public – which I shall be claiming as iconic! – I’ve also seen a lot of love and i’m truly grateful ❤️ thank you 🌜🧚‍♀️🧙🌱’

Since the contest, Lorraine Kelly has blasted the ‘scandal’ of Olly Alexander’s ‘crushing’ Eurovision result.

At the Bafta TV Awards the night after Eurovision, the ITV host praised the Valentino hitmaker saying that he handled the loss very well.

‘Do you know what? I thought the way that he handled the fact that – the scandal – that we got no points audience… what the bloody hell is going on? But he handled it so well,’ she said.

‘I mean, obviously, of course, he’s going to be crushed, but he’ll bounce back absolutely fine.’
