Rob Rinder wept after Rylan Clark said he attempted suicide after his divorce from his ex-husband Dan Neal.
The This Morning presenter, 35, said after his six year marriage broke down he ‘tried to end it, tried to finish myself’ off as she opened up about his mental health to Rob, 45, on their BBC show Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour.
Rob was left in tears as the Eurovision host detailed the impact of his divorce from Dan Neal on his mental health and also spoke about his own pain from suffering an unrequited love.
The pair had the heart-to-heart while drinking an Aperol Spritz in Venice during the first episode of their BBC travel show, which sees them visit Italy’s tourist hotspots including Rome and Florence.
Speaking about his dark period, former It Takes Two presenter Rylan said: ‘I think it was a culmination of my marriage breaking down and actually me stopping for the first time in 10 years.
‘Then, all of a sudden, I hit quite a big speed bump and instead of carrying on, I just sunk.

‘It was the worst experience of my life. I just went on a downward spiral. I tried to end it, I tried to finish myself off.
‘I didn’t eat, I went down to 9st. I’m 6ft 4 Rob, like I look[ed] horrendous.’
Rylan then said he would have ‘given up everything’ to have not put his mum Linda, 71, through the trauma of watching ‘her successful son literally disintegrate.’
Wiping away the tears, Rob, who divorced his ex-husband Seth Cumming in 2018, shared his own heartbreak: ‘I was once so in love when I was in my early twenties, but it wasn’t reciprocated. And it never has been.’

Rylan summed up: ‘We’re here once we’ve been through quite a lot. What it’s taught us is that nothing’s forever unless it’s right.’
The former X Factor contestant has previously spoken about the trauma he experienced after his split and revealed he was hospitalised with heart failure.
During An Evening With Rylan Clark at London’s Festival Hall, he said: ‘There were weeks that I couldn’t speak. That sounds ridiculous because I can talk for England. My mum was genuinely concerned at one point that I’d had a stroke.
‘It was like my body had shut down. Twice last year I ended up back in an ambulance because my heart had failed.’

Rylan said once he had recovered he flew out on his first-ever solo holiday to Spain and found the trip revitalising.
‘I went to Barcelona by myself, it was a spur of the moment [thing] and it was one of the best experiences I could have ever asked for,’ he said.
‘I came back from that ready. I’ve not given up on [love] but I’ve got to be fully in that position where I’m willing to give it another go.’
Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
