A Twitch streamer has made a wireless Xbox controller that looks just like the artefact in Baldur’s Gate 3, with 20 buttons and motion sensors.

Gamers are very good at showing their appreciation of their favourite games and consoles in creative ways, with one recent example being the YouTuber who built the infamous £277,000 Nintendo PlayStation from scratch.

Home made controllers are also not unusual, as we saw with the gamer who built a retro console out of a smartwatch and a PlayStation 4 controller.

Now a Twitch streamer has built a working Xbox controller that looks like the mysterious artefact in Baldur’s Gate 3, with 20 working buttons and motion sensors.

The project was supposed to take content creator Rudeism a week to finish, but he ended up spending five months making the controller.

Rudeism designed the controller, 3D printed the parts, wired the electric circuits, programming it to work with the in-game controls, and painted it.

He then used it while playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on his livestream with no issues, and promised fans to continue the experiment going forward.

The controller is wireless and has 20 buttons placed around the device, with internal motion sensors, which means he can tilt the controller in the direction he wants the character to move.

Rudeism did admit in a Twitter video showcasing the controller that ‘it’s not the most ergonomic controller I’ve ever made, but I definitely think it’s one of the most unique.’

This is far from the only home made controller Rudeism has made, with his other inventions including a drill to play 2D platformer Pepper Grinder with and a baguette controller to play Overwatch.

It’s a very impressive bit of kit and all the more so because it’s very unlikely that Larian Studios would ever make something official that worked the same way.
