A BBC newsreader has revealed he’s set to take to the stage at Glastonbury soon.

Ros Atkins, 50, has been working for the national broadcaster since 2001, and is best known for his role as the ‘Explainer-in-Chief’.

His videos breaking down topics like party gate to Boris Johnson’s Peppa Pig speech have seen him pick up thousands of fans, with many of his clips going viral on social media.

He presents Outside Source, Ros Atkins on the week and Ros Atkins on.. on BBC World News and the BBC News Channel, as well as The Media Show.

However, this week Ros announced he’s about to be even more busy after being selected as part of the line-up for the upcoming music festival.

‘It’s frankly incomprehensible that I’m tweeting this – but here’s the line-up for Stonebridge at Glastonbury and, to my great excitement and astonishment, I’m on it,’ he shared alongside a poster listing the performers for the dance music tent.

‘What started with a one-off drum and bass set for BBC6Music two years ago has ended up here.

‘Very grateful for the invitation. Work on the set has already begun…’

His followers were clearly also excited by the new gig, with many offering their congratulations and exclaiming how ‘cool’ it was.

After one said this could be ‘a career peak’, he replied: ‘In DJing terms, I think we can say that with some certainty!’

Another jokingly asked if he had ‘fact-checked’ the news.

It was two years ago that it was revealed Ros used to work as a DJ and had put on his own nights in Brixton in the early 2000s and also used to DJ while working in South Africa.

‘Now here’s a story. Back in the 90s, along with lots of teenagers in Cornwall, I started going to raves & listening to hardcore and drum & bass.

‘I also started to DJ. Inspired by @therealLTJbukem @DJHYPE_PLAYAZ @KennyDJKen @RAYKEITH1 and others I started to buy a lot of D&B and, through my 20s, in a very amateur fashion, I DJed a range of music in London, Cornwall & Cambridge. This is at a night I ran in Brixton.’

Fans and celebrities alike were taken aback by the revelation. with TV chef Nigella Lawson simply replying: ‘Fabulous.’

However, that same year he shared he hadn’t hit the decks in a long time, something he will now be rectifying.

Speaking to The Guardian Ros had said he might return to his passion once his children were older.

‘My last gig was in the mid-00s at a festival in Regent’s Park. Our first daughter was born a few days later,’ he told the publication.

The 2024 Glastonbury Festival is scheduled to take place between June 26-30.
