The remake of 80s classic Time Bandits has been hit with allegations of abuse on set as Charlyne Yi claims they were ‘physically assaulted multiple times’.
Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement are attached to the upcoming fantasy adventure remake, with Friends star Lisa Kudrow set to star.
Charlyne, 38, was cast as Judy for one episode of the time travel TV series for Apple and Paramount, which was filmed in New Zealand in 2022.
The nonbinary star, best known for their role in House, claimed they were ‘coerced to quit’ the project and were ‘gaslit by coworkers’.
In their Instagram posts, Charlyne wrote: ‘I was not safe, supported, or protected. I was physically assaulted multiple times by an actor, as well as psychologically abused.’
‘They debated my life, gaslit me, told me to feed my abuser’s ego… to submit to my abuser so he wouldn’t physically assault me more,’ they continued.

Charlyne, who has not named their abuser, also claimed they sustained a back injury due to the abuse while on set but were denied workers’ compensation.
‘They treated my body/mind/soul/life like it was disposable, making me want to commit suicide, which I am not prone to thinking this way,’ the Steven Universe actor said.
‘I was coerced to quit. They rejected my workers comp supporting my recovery for my injured back and PTSD, which my insurance does not cover and should not. I want accountability and reparations.’
In a second post, Charlyne continued: ‘My abuser pressed his body on me from behind, to the point I had to dig my feet into the ground to keep my stance during rehearsals and filming.

‘I tried to shove him off. He pushed down harder and harder til I felt my lower back compress sending sharp pains through my whole body.’
They claimed after the incident their abuser brought them a jar of honey as a ‘gift’ but continued to ridicule and taunt them, as well as physically assault them.
Charlyne, who is getting a new lawyer and agent, added the trauma left them unable to sleep and suffering from hair loss as well as back pain.
They added they were aware if they complained they could be ‘disposed of’ and ‘swept under the rug’.
In a statement, Paramount Television Studios said: ‘The safety of our cast and crew is very important to us, and we take all concerns that are raised to us very seriously.

‘At the time of the complaint, Paramount Television Studios conducted a full investigation regarding allegations that were brought to our attention. While all investigations are confidential and we cannot comment on specifics, additional steps were taken to address concerns.’
A source claimed to Daily Mail Australia the alleged ‘physical assault’ occurred on camera during a scene which involved running and bumping into Charlyne as well as picking them up.
They also refuted the claims that workers’ compensation was not paid, adding the studio assisted with ‘proactive steps’ but the payment was from an outside party.
Charlyne added production were ‘prioritising people’s careers and a fictional world’ instead of ‘protecting those most marginalised and targeted’.
