The Prime Minister joined Loose Women’s panel for a surprisingly intense chat as Judi Love ripped into him over poverty in the UK.

Kaye Adams, Jane Moore, Janet Street-Porter, and Judi each took it in turns to question Rishi Sunak on the state of the country.

While Janet, 77, brutally asked why he ‘hates pensioners’, it was the interrogation over starving children, universal credit, and poverty that ignited support from viewers.

The current PM appeared on the show on May 16 to discuss the push for strict sex education bans but he got more than he bargained for on the daytime show.

Judi, 43, refused to let Rishi off the hook as he squirmed away from answering what he planned to do about those unable to afford housing and food.

She began: ‘Prime Minister, look, obviously we’re talking about children here in regard to social media and the risk that they’re at but as a parent, there’s a lot I’m concerned about.’

Moving the topic to knife crime, Rishi nodded as the presenter asked about the increase of 20% in violence and pointed out many can’t afford to live safely.

‘I was in social housing, I lived in a home that had damp that was affecting my child’s health,’ Judi continued. ‘We’ve got NHS workers right now as we’re having this interview that are queueing to go to food banks.

‘I think the question should be not what are you going to do but when are you going to do something to make a change people are suffering right now.’

Rishi replied by discussing their passing of the Online Safety Act, to which Kaye replied that her co-star was asking about poverty, not social media.

‘What is happening now? We are losing kids to poverty in the UK,’ responded Judi after acknowledging the need for online protections.

The former chancellor circled back to his push for online safety but the former Strictly star wasn’t letting him escape that easily.

She firmly asked: ‘So what about those children who are not exposed to it because they don’t have the means for gas and electric in their homes. What are we doing to help those at home who are struggling?’

Rishi responded by saying ‘financial security’ is something he is concerned with, adding: ‘We’ve all had a tough time recently.’

‘None of this has been easy for anybody Judi, what we’ve done in that time is continually provide support to people,’ he continued before bringing up his work during furlough.

Patting himself on the back Rishi talked about his work as the Chancellor as Kaye cut across and said: ‘We’ve got 4,000,000 children living in poverty, Prime Minister.’

Bringing it back to ordinary people concerned about their living conditions, paycheque, and ‘sending their kids to the shop’, Judi grilled him once more on actionable policies for poverty now.

‘They need you to protect them as Prime Minister,’ she added looking unimpressed as Rishi diverted back to the pandemic solutions.

He replied: ‘All the things you just said were true then and I wasn’t going to lose my job, it wasn’t as if the pandemic restrictions meant every MP was going to be fired. So all the things you said then were true at that moment but I knew the right thing was for us to step in and support people.

‘To protect those 10 million jobs and that’s what I did with energy bills and I could ask people to judge me by my actions. That’s who I am as a person and that’s how I was raised.’

Stoney-faced, Judi quipped back: ‘How were you raised?’

Here Janet interrupted and moved the conversation on but viewers flooded X with praise for Judi and her determined interviewing.

‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s what you’ve DONE. What @1Judilove has just asked you is what are you going to DO? NOW?’ tweeted Carole.

James Leon added: ‘The legend that is Judy Love going in hard on Rishi Sunak and what he’s going to do about social deprivation on.’

‘@1Judilove asking the right questions to Sunak,’ praised Wendi Gregg as Adrian agreed: ‘Keep it real Judi, booooom.’

‘Such an irritating SMUG Rishi Sunak,’ wrote Jim. ‘Look forward to the
Conservatives losing the next G.E.’

‘Rishi Sunak not actually answering ANY of the questions,’ scathed Zyna while Jay wrote: ‘He’s dodging the questions.’

The rest of the interview saw Janet press him over pensions before Jane wrapped up the intense half-hour segment asking about a general election.

As they headed into an advert break the current Prime Minister, who has not stood in a general election before, looked pleased and told people to vote for him.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30 on ITV1.
