Radio host Amanda Keller was attacked by a bird during her recent show broadcast on WSFM radio, and was even left bleeding.

The presenter was hosting her show, Jonesy and Amanda, with her co-host Brendan Jones, when she was nipped by a colourful lorikeet.

The radio stars have become bird babysitters this week as they have been caring for a 19-year-old pet bird and bringing her to the studio for their broadcast.

The presenter decided that a fantastic time to give Blaze (the elderly lorkieet) a bath would be mid-show, stating that the owner said she loved having a nice clean.

Amanda was protected from water splashes in a pink poncho and plastic gloves, but sadly was not protected from getting a nip from Blaze who was very much uninterested in being bathed.

When luring the bird with a grape didn’t work, Amanda placed her hand inside the cage and tried to remove Blaze by grabbing her – which she did not enjoy and gave her a peck to tell her so.

The nip was small but did draw blood with Amanda yelping out in pain.

‘Look thank you, blood,’ she said pointing to the tiny mark on her knuckle, she then said sarcastically: ‘What a dreadful injury I’ve had.’

She also joked: ‘It was like the [time] when I was a kid and the neighbours had a kitten and I wanted it to wear a little doll’s dress. That didn’t end well either.’

Explaining why the pair are looking after a bird, a caption on another post from the duo read: ‘For those unfamiliar with the story, we’re looking after Craig’s beloved 19-year-old rainbow lorikeet for a week while he visits his 82-year-old mother for her birthday in Broken Hill – the first time in over three years!’

The co-hosts have shared many updates over the week, and even cleaned Blaze’s cage mid-show.

In one video, they showed how comfortable the lorikeet has become with Amanda, even showing how she’s happy to sit on Amanda’s shoulder while she’s presenting the 6 am to 9 am show.

Fans have loved the special guest on the radio show and complimented Amanda and Brendan.

‘She adorable, and has settled in well at WSFM, proves your both doing a great job, the cage cleaning is the worst bit,’ said Julie.thompson.940098 on Instagram.

‘Oh this is adorable!!! What a sweetie,’ said theretromumma.

Jonesy and Amanda’s show continues on weekdays at 6am to 9am on WSFM 101.7.
