Carol Vorderman has been dubbed the ‘people’s princess’ after appearing on Late Night Lycett and speaking out against the government.

For the final episode of the second season of his late-night TV show, comedian Joe Lycett was joined by celebrities including BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri, Jack Rooke, Johnny Vegas, and Carol the Countdown legend.

The 63-year-old won the nation’s hearts as she commented on the current government, slamming the Tory party several times.

When asked about her upcoming book, the presenter said passionately that she’s ‘not holding back in this book’, adding that it’s a deep-dive into ‘all the Tory crap, they have taken from the already rich and they are giving to the rich.’

She then said: ‘I did a few numbers, earlier in the year they’d been in power for 5000 days since David Cameron became PM in January… but I calculated how much they had added to the national debt every day for 5000 days, and it was over £300million a day, for 5000 days, where’s all the money gone?

‘Because I tell you what, everything NHS, prisons, schools, water, rivers, even water in the taps in Devon, everything has turned to s**t.’

Carol’s comments were met with huge cheers and applause from the audience.

On a quick-fire round of how to fix the country, Joe threw questions towards Carol and co-guest Jack with Carol saying the key to saving the NHS was to ‘vote them out’.

When it came to ‘mortgage rises’, she said: ‘I know, time travel back to before Liz Truss.’

She did however stay schtum on ‘the future of This Morning’, advising Big Boys producer Jack to ‘not get involved’.

Fans loved the comments from the TV personality and took to social media to praise the star. @supertanskiii commented: ‘Our Vorders being absolutely iconic on #LateNightLycett 🔥’

@j11_lee agreed stating: ‘Carol Vorderman, the people’s princess, I know that’s right #LateNightLycett.’ @befbadbelly added: ‘Carol Vorderman slagging off the Tories on #LateNightLycett is exactly what I needed tonight.’

Yet another fan, @radiodandy75 took to Twitter to say: ‘Carol Vorderman is brilliant on Late  Night Joe Lycett tonight.’

This isn’t the first time that Carol has made her political views known, and she frequently uses her social media platform to slam the government.

Last December, Carol made a blistering vow against Tories in government as she told Sunday Brunch on Channel 4: ‘For the next year, I’m devoting myself to the election and getting rid of as many Tories as possible.’

She has taken this vow seriously and has since used her X account – formerly known as Twitter – to slam the Tories.

Just hours before her appearance on Joe Lycett’s TV show she took to X to share a post about tactically voting with a caption that read: ‘With the greatest of respect Jeremy [Hunt], you operate like a bunch of abusers telling their victims that they’ll be worse off without them.’

Another tweet highlighted salaries earned by Tory MPs, Esther McVey and her MP husband Philip Davies, as Carol criticised their large salary and asked: ‘Common sense to pay them? We must be mad!!’

Carol’s book Out of Order is set to be released in September 2024.
